At last the new (well new to Boris) engine / gearbox gearbox combination is almost in Boris.

2L Pinto - ex Transit and Autobox ex Delstarts' jeep.

The prop shaft is staked and the UJ is in need of reconditioning.

I have noticed most autobox propshafts have a shock absorbing doughnut fitted. Should one be fitted into the one piece propshaft - if so has anyone done this.

Second query. How tight to the bulkhead should the engine sit - the engine did have a Thermo coupled fan - but that has been removed and an Escort Xflow fan fitted in its place - however it is still a long engine - not a lot of room between fan and rad.

See www.httpjoctecwebfutureeasyspace.com/X-flow_to_OHC.htm

This details moving the engine back to give you space up front.
On earlier Geeps the bulkhead framework was too low for pinto's and will need modification to allow you to remove the rocker cover once the engine is installed.

Regards the rubber doughnut - where would this mount? Some gearboxes couple to the propshaft with a doughnut but this is only suitable for IRS rear ends - the couplings don't articulate enough for a live-axle. As the propshaft is so short on a Geep, I would just stick to a conventional one.

Thanks Swizz - I will stick to doing it by the book.

Tomorrow I shall be welding and drilling the mounting plates etc. Hopefully by the end of the weekend Boris will be back on the road.

With the 2L I should need to keep an eye out for speed cameras. With the clapped out 1300 this was not an issue - the problem was holding up tractors.

escort auto props dont have the rubber bit
mk 2 two piece prop if you use the longer half is pretty close to being the right length
i changed staked uj on my geep
socket extention to abusively remove itbrute force and ignorance
the replacement i got was exactly the right size to fit flush hammered in then staked 16 times on each cup with a dot punch
this was a different width to origional uj but same cup diameter
i think it was meant for home replacement
otherwise you need to make up a spacer to hammer it centrally

The rubber donut used on some prop shafts is not suitable for Jago's. It is designed to take out some of the loading/shock but is only suitable for a two piece prop shaft where the front part of the shaft remains relatively static in its position and then all movement from the axle when driving on the road (suspension movement) is catered for by the U/J and centre bearing mounted in the prop tube of the car body. With Jago's (apart from some of the Samuri's) having a one piece prop shaft the axle movement would wear the rubber donut and at the very least cause some running problems with possible vibration.
If possible have the U/J's and yokes renewed for circliped joints and preferably greasable U/J's.
