Looking to get a separate card and account for the spending on an improvement project at home.

I know all the main banks will want a credit check and I don't want a hard search on my file at the moment.

Are there any providers who will give me a card?

I only need the account/card, no direct debits, no overdraft etc. Card use will be mix of online and in person purchases.

Thanks!

Revolut

ETA - with any of them though, there will likely be a £10k limit - after that Anti-Money Laundering rules kick in & they will need to do something.

Why not just open an additional account with your existing bank?

The point at which AML checks start to kick in and they need to do a bit more due diligence on you.
A bit like if you try to pay £10k in cash into a bank - that's when the questions start, source of funds etc.
I don't know if that would also trigger a credit check, but it's certainly a threshold for increased scrutiny.

I hate to go all powerfully built director here, I've never seen any issue either moving larger sums between my own accounts or paying third parties. It definitely won't trigger a credit check, but some banks have had lower daily limits than others for making Faster payments - the system limit is now £1m, apparently, some banks I've used have limited it to £20k out per day.

Surely what you're thinking of is the KYC questions - you're usually asked for the source of funding for a new account but that's entirely different.

And to answer OP's question, I'd happily recommend Chase too. Good perks, and good customer service IME.

I was thinking the same, hence my question.
I recently transferred a large sum from starling to revolut.
As someone opened a Credit account in my name at Argos last year, I subscribe to Experian, so every search whether it had an impact ( new credit) or none ( insurance quotes) gets flagged to me.
Never had one from Revolut.

If you’re paranoid and you’re going to put large sums in worth noting the current account doesn’t come under FSCS protection, however the saving vaults do.
Also if you pay for the premium service the interest rate for the vault is currently a little over 2%

Also look at wise. I have a multi-currency account and a physical card with them, all works very well via the app or website:
