I have an Audi S4 (2011) that is ULEZ compliant. I recently changed the plate and assumed the status would stay the same as ULEZ compliant.

However, I have just received a PCN and when I check the reg against TFL, even though it states the make and model, it now says "we don't know if your vehicle meets emission standards".

It states I need to register the car and I need a letter from Audi or a cert of conformity. Anyone heard of this before? Or does the relevant info show up on the V5C?

I probably should have checked before driving the car to see what TFL said about the new plate...

The Miser his Greatness Mr Khan makes the rules as I understand it.

I believe many have fallen put a vanity plate on and its had issues with their ULEZ compliance, mysteriously the DVLA are not known for accuracy of data or helpfulness, so I don't mess about with plates.

As far I know you now have to appeal, have you got proof of compliance with the cars assigned reg?

If the Euro Status is listed on the V5 you may be able to just scan that to TfL. Unfortunately euro statuses weren't really relevant back in 2011 like they are now so there's every chance its not on the V5. In which case it would have to be the CoC from Audi to get it back to ULEZ compliant. If you call TfL and speak to them I believe you can get the PCN put on hold whilst you're doing this so they don't keep pursuing you.

Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good political rant.
Vanity plates do cause an issue, just explain the situation on the online chat and they will quickly resolved it.

This works both ways, so maybe I should thank Khan that my defender is compliant still, 2 years after I transferred the plate from one of my bikes.

Said bike despite being brand new showed as non compliant as the plate had come from my TVR.
Was very quickly and easily dealt with.

Might be talking out my arse but the NOx emissions should be on page 2 of the V5, and a scan from that would keep them happy.

Is the PCN from TFL or one of the other Clean Air Zones around the country?

Your car can be exempt from TFL but not from CAZ or vice versa. So good warning to anyone else reading this....

I bought 2 Porsches in 2021 and wanted to be sure they were ULEZ so I checked the TFL website and both came up as ULEZ. Then I drove through the Birmingham CAZ and got fined for not paying their charge. Long story short I then figured out that the database TFL uses is different to CAZ. So just be aware of this if you're checking if your car or a car you plan to buy is compliant. I'm still not 100% sure if the EUR 4 compliant rules are the same for TFL as they are for CAZ. Longer explanation in this thread if anyone is interested.
