Is anyone running an distributorless system on their RV8 e.g. Emerald, Omex etc?. If so what are you using for the crank trigger, does anyone supply these of the shelf?

I am

Using an Emerald system which had to be built specially, so it'll cost more than the std emerald and I'm using a pair of Ford coil packs with my own designed and made crank trigger wheel, that sandwhichs up on the front pulley

It's splendid, I can put the spark where I want it and run loads of advance past the mechanical window restrictons of the dizzy. Currently using up to 38° at low loads

Sounds interesting. Where did you source the pickup from?. Was thinking about drilling holes in the back of the pulley. Dont suppose you have any pics of yours do you?. I'm hopefully going to be using an MBE system for mine. Are you also using the standard throttle pot?

Steve, am i right in thinking that the later range rovers didnt use a crank sensor on the front pulley but on the flywheel and this cannot be used on the TVR block?.

Kim - the late Range Rover is indeed triggered from the flywheel (got one in my own car). This arrangement can only easily be used where the block has the facility for mounting the pickup. It is also an engine-out job to change the flywheel of course...

If you want a pickup, the easiest way is to use either John Eales or V8 Developments. Either of these can supply a kit (usually 36-1), or fit it to the crank pulley for you.

From your profile, I cannot make out which size motor is in your Griff. If it is a 5.0 Litre, then the motor is externally balanced by the crank pulley. The balancing skirt (that carries the weights) is right where you want the trigger wheel to be. In this case, you should send the whole pulley to John Eales, who will fit a trigger ring and re-balance it for you.

My preferred choice of aftermarket system is an Omex 710, although an MBE is an excellent choice also. Out of interest, what is the rationale behind the conversion?

Any inductive pickup will work with a toothed wheel, you can use Ford , vauxhall, etc etc, mine is a ford one

I made the toothed wheel from a pulley wheel bought from an industrial drive belt supplier
