It's 30 years old this year but it's still being modded and worked on.
If you've not played it all or lately and want to see just one of the revamps it's had try Brutal Doom Black Edition (link in the video description at the top for an already packed zip file for all the mods listed and used in this guy's video) all you need is an original copy of Doom and drop the doom.wad into the Brutal Doom folder and away you go. Check out the settings/options and key bindings flashlight is obviously F but there are many other things, plus double weapons options on each numerical button, so faster single barrel pump action shotgun and double barrel super shotgun on 3 alternate by pressing 3.
More difficulty variations too.
Weather, sounds, visuals, move barrels, jump, all around view, monsters are also improved massively, some jump, can still attack if injured or shoot.
