Skoda Kodiaq pcp deal
Discussion
So trying for a baby (number 3) and the missus wants to change the daily driver, currently a 2014 X5 with 90k on the clock.
She likes the look of the kodiaqs so have priced up a few pcp deals.
Best one I can see is for a brand new Kodiaq 1.5tsi sportline act dsg with a pano roof in that nice grey colour Skoda are doing.
48 months
10k miles pa
10k down
3k dealer contribution
£335.52 a month
I think this sounds very reasonable.
What do you guys think?

I have never bought a new car so a bit of a leap for me.
What is the APR and the balloon payment? She likes the look of the kodiaqs so have priced up a few pcp deals.

Also, what do you intend to do with the car in year 4? Keep it, part-ex for something different, or just hand it back & walk away?

Balloon payment of £17.4k and 7.9%apr.
At the end of the term it would depend on how much we enjoyed the car.
If worth more than the balloon, probably just pay off the balance.
If worth less or even, walk away.
So £900 a month for 48 months to own the car. At the end of the term it would depend on how much we enjoyed the car.

Over £500 a month to rent it if you walk away. Ouch.
What are they selling you the car for in terms of sticker price?

Yea, new car ownership seems incredibly expensive right now. The x5 is causing me no hurt, I've had it for five years, it's getting a little tired, I'm getting a bit tired of it.Over £500 a month to rent it if you walk away. Ouch.

Also looking at used x3s, discovery sports.
39.5k sticker price on the kodiaq with a 3k dealer contribution on top.

So 25.6k to have the car for 4 years, then hand it back or stump up more.
I mean, car prices have shot up recently i know, but it just seems a lot to me.
Great family car though. My mate has a high spec special edition one and it's very nice indeed!
I mean, I don't hate the idea of paying 40k for it to own it, I'd rather just finance a large part of it compared to forking out a tonne of my own money.I mean, car prices have shot up recently i know, but it just seems a lot to me.

At the price point, you're getting nowhere near the like of a new Toureg etc so it kinda feels like a decent deal, but it's hard to know.

Why not just get a standard old school HP loan on the car, or at least price it up and also a personal loan. Probably won’t be a huge amount of difference, but there’s a chance that difference will be in your favour based on the size of the balloon payment. You’ll also know you’re paying down an asset every month, albeit a depreciating one. A depreciating asset is better than one guaranteed to have a value of nil. I think it sounds fookin mental. Your £10K is subsiding the (not inconsiderable) monthlies. You’ve even got a year with no warranty.
I think it's mental too.But essentially the 10k down is reducing the interest paid over the term.
When looking at a new family car, that can fit a dog in the boot, bikes on the tow bar, a roofbox on top I just can't see what the alternative is right now when it comes to buying a car.

Mid 20’s worth of nearly new V90?But essentially the 10k down is reducing the interest paid over the term.

Save yourself 10k and buy a used one. It's only a slightly dressed up white goods type of vehicle that'll get covered inside with dog hair and the mess kids make.

Of course, if money isn't much of a concern, why not?

I think they like to kid people they’re going to get the £10K back at the end but you’ve got to reckon on it disappearing.A year’s Skoda warranty will be buttons but won’t have the coverage as the original warranty - you did used to be able to extend at time of purchase, but I know VW has dropped that so assume Skoda has but worth checking.
Also, if it’s VWFS than worth getting a service and maint quote - they can be quite cheap. Check if this covers 4th year failures though.
What’s it cost to lease one of these? I guess it’s going to end up pretty similar.
If there is nothing wrong with the X5 then keep it, paying over £500 a month for 1.5 Skoda seems madness to me same as I pay for a my 7 series and those are now over £1000 per month which is crazy.
Everything is too expensive at the moment I'd just take under "advisement" and kick the idea into the long grass, or maybe a Model Y long range AWD? they seem to be around the same as the 1.5 skoda if you can charge it at home that seems like an idea.

It's a four year old car for 10k cheaper than what a brand new one is.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2022100604...

If the used market followed that trend, I should realistically buy new.

To be fair, your right. Cars have just got expensive, full stop. 10k doesn't feel a huge jump up from that, fir a brand new car with updated interior/tech etc.
It's mad to think ten years ago I bought a brand new m3, the idea of me doing that now is incomprehensible. Although I see their used values have plumetted already.Salaries, or to be more precise, my salary has just not kept up with inflation.
Can get into a tesla model y for about £500 a month, but with electricity costs the way they are, how much saving is there to be had now!?
