..Hear me out.

Most of us use social media. They can be entertaining, used correctly. But I'm thinking most of us also have children.

Just this morning, I'm going on Tik Tok and the amount of scare mongering going on there is unreal. Cyber attacks incoming, planes crashing, paedo catching, the UK being the most violent and terrible country to live in, women with little to nothing on wanting to attract attention etc... The list truly goes on.

Never mind for children even for us adults it can be truly depressing. No wonder we're all so paranoid and depressed. I can't quite figure out how this is allowed- is this really down to freedom of expression?

Expressing what exactly? Where is this world heading? I really think an overhaul of the internet wouldn't do any harm as it really all is going too far. My opinion will certainly be shut down by the majority I'm sure but I don't know why. I'm certainly no prude and have seen my fair share of bad stuff in the real world but for this content to be accessed to easily for everyone from the comfort of their own home does really make me wonder where we'll be in even 10 years time.

I miss the 80s and 90s... Yes, all of this did happen and we were unaware of it but is being informed by it every second of every day now really help?

Ban information sharing because you don't like the information?

Can you see where that's headed?

the tik tok algo just shares things it thinks you interested in.

Your data profile must like that kind of stuff.

Mine is just cycling and girls doing yoga.

I must admit I quite like TikTok some genuinely hilarious and interesting stuff but some of it is a bit weird, you mention yoga and I saw one yesterday with a girl in a Bikini doing Yoga, its was not appropriate as you could basically see her anus, now I am not a prude but it shouldn't contain what is borderline pornography.

Someone on Tik Tok who is a recovering alcoholic gave me a wakeup call so I'm glad it exists.
It's a bit mad, but there's some good people on there aswell.

Absolutely this - what is presented to you, is what the app thinks you want to watch.

My feed is full of skiing, mountain biking, fast cars and movie / TV reviews. I accidentally watched one of those Police Auditor videos and it took several weeks of flicking past the deluge of Auditor videos presented for it to realise I didn't want to watch hours of idiots goading police officers.

I don't see any plane crashing scare mongering videos on my feed. Generally it's all pretty positive stuff.

Any different to the TV channels reading the doom-laden news 24 hours a day?

I'm not sure how banning it in my house is going to help you.

Can't you just ban it in your house?

Surely tik tok shows you more of what you've been watching (the full video) and/or liked.

Mine is funny as fk, dunno what you're watching.

That one was on my algorithm! To be honest I like TikTok for a bit of crack (no that type) but it would be easier if it just had a “no one with an AF account linked option.

Same here mostly comedian, fast cars and Chuck Norris jokes - which my son and I find hilarious and my wife and daughter just get angry the more we say them (they're not funny ...but are...IYKWIM)

TikTok is ace and I'm 42 ....just have to like the right stuff I guess and not let your kids go down rabbit holes of conspiracy sht etc.

My main issue with TikTok is the supposed social agenda of dumbing the west down (conspiracy theory behind the origins of the platform)

However, back in the real world I do think that that particular platform is massively increasing the inability for a lot of its users to have their attention held for more than a minute which is frightening

Mine seems to be a lot of animal type stuff, it knows I have a soft spot for Racoons.

A bloke walking round farting near people.

Political type woman who starts every video with Dystopia Warning

A girl who makes here face dance a bit like Conrad Poohs from Monty Python

Various DIY

Car stuff

Cooking stuff

Comedians

Retro computer

Music

And the odd girl in a bikini...

Tik Tok is a deliberate targeted attack by the Chinese state. Textbook unconventional warfare.

I am sure some people must have said the same thing as the OP when Gutenberg started printing with moveable type six centuries ago.

Banned for the reasons you suggest? Probably not.

Is it detrimental to the youth of today? Maybe, guess we will find out along with the rest of social media.

My Tiktok stream is predominantly gym videos/ weight lifting with some strong man stuff thrown in. If you are seeing stuff you don't like it's down to your own viewing habits.
