What is the most comfortable car you've ever driven, and how far did you drive it?

I once did 1200 miles in 36 hours, in an old E350 with heated ortho seats, it was so comfy. biggrin

Not done a long journey in it yet, but the seats in my new to me Alfa 147 are really comfortable.

Driven down to Lisbon in a couple of days in my VXR8 when I got it and that was pretty good.

First gen Volvo XC60 2.4d SE Lux, absolutely lovely to just waft about in when I lived down west. Did some long trips up country and it always felt extremely comfortable. Some of the more recent Volvo's haven't been as comfy as the default R-design has traded comfort for looks/image.

Citroën Cactus rental, Ms sidewinder fell asleep immediately, so it must be the most comfortable car.
Lots of mileage in the Bourgogne

Ford Scorpio.

It didn't really have 'seats' - more like two leather armchairs taken directly from the fireside of a posh gentleman's club.

Mark 1 Ford Granada 3.0 Ghia.

Borrowed from a mate for a Gatwick run in the early 90's , like driving on silk.

Peugeot 405 GTX TD (1996). Drove it from England to Spain and back twice in 2004 and 2005, over 1200 miles each time. No backache at all.

The worst? Did the same journey later on in a 2002 Vx Astra and it was agony; I had to wedge a pillow behind me as a sort of lumbar support, it still hurt. frown

W205 C-Class with 17's and air suspension was good. Only did about 120 miles in it though. Very quiet, great road manners. Can't imagine what a well specced E-Class or S-Class is like (only been a short distance as a passenger in the E-Class, and not at higher speeds. Never had the fortune to ride in an S so far...)

I did 700 miles in my gtr the other day, not the most comfortable but much better than i thought it would be.

Starts with Seats for me, I've sat in virtually every luxury car and the S class contour seats are simple unbeatable, suspension next & enough weight in the car to activate it properly, quiet - acousic windshield, double glazed windows, decent profile tyres, quiet engine.

S500 limo with the contour seats, we have the S63 cabriolet which has the seaats but its not got the ride of the S500, theres a reason other marques use the S class as their bench mark.

The mk2 MR2 Turbo I had was ridiculously comfortable. Did Wirral - Faslane - Portsmouth - Wirral once, and felt fresh as a daisy at the end.

Those seats were superb.

Best ride - Citroen Xantia (while the suspension spheres were working properly anyway).

Probably rose tinted glasses with the passing of time, but

Dad's '85 Peugeot 604 (ti V6 no less!) had a lovely ride. certainly better than the XJ6 (series 3) which replaced it.

1963 Mk10 Jag, Used to travel from Elgon,Morayshire to Ilfracombe,680 miles. Just with one stop approx half way at Carlisle services for fuel and a wee. Could get out the other end quite happy.
As long as it did 20mpg I was happy. Cruised overnight at approx 80-85

Rolls Royce Silver Spirit 2 probably, although the Bentley Continental Flying Spur would have been even nicer if the driver's seat would have gone back a bit further (mustn't crush the rear passengers' legs).

Out of the 25 cars I've owned over the last 40 years it has to be the current one, Mercedes E280 cdi, the thing just glides, reckon I could drive it for hours without a problem, I'll find out in May when I finally get some time off from the rat race.

1 st generation Volvo XC90 - many a London - Dordogne trip in this and it was comfier than going to bed.

Close second was a W220 S Class Mercedes with air suspension and small wheels, which did many London - the Alps trips (usually overnight)

Third was a Saab 9000 2.3 CSE which gave the S-Class a run for its money but was let down by really intrusive road noise at any speed on anything other than a glass-smooth surface
