Decided recently to get Netflix and see what the obsession is all about amongst the normie binge crowd who seem to think Netflix is the best thing since slice bread. I was disappointed at the lack of old films and TV shows, no Star Wars, Bond films, Back to the Future, about 3 Arnie films (Kindergarten Cop, Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation), no Die Hard films, no Disney films for the kids, kids stuff just consisted Shrek, Madagasca and lots obscure animated films that hardly anyone has ever heard of. No Jurassic Park films either. I guess they just want to make people pay for another service.

Yes, they tend to concentrate on good stuff.

Netflix seems to be nothing but docu dramas about some murder you’ve never heard of that drags out for 12 episodes.

There is a huge difference where you are based too. The netflix I had in Bulgaria was hugely limited compared to that of the US.

A VPN may help.

It's also frustrating finding new stuff to watch as it just suggests the same stuff to you. You really have to go on a deep search to find anything different.

I agree I've noticed that too, and I doubt those dramas ever tell you the real story. If it's not that it's some morbid dystopian series like Handmaides Tale or Birdcage, as if we need reminding of the world we are heading towards, plus propaganda of all kinds and all the wokeness crap that's on there. Even the kids shows are all modern remakes, noticed there was a modern version of He-Man which looked atrocious, nothing like the classic 80s cartoon of the 80s. Alot of the films are stuff that end up at charity shops that noone cares about because they've been shown on TV week in week out on a loop.

Disney it the best if you have young kids. They have Star Wars, Die Hards, loads of old films, all the Disney films

Netflix and Prime focus mainly on making their own films / series now rather than just licensing old films. Netflix still has lots of great stuff you just need to watch a few.

Yes, Netflix doesn’t have everything but you are on a monthly subscription so once you’ve seen what you want, you can then switch to Disney for a while, then Apple, then Paramount, then NowTv etc.

There's an app/website called justwatch which lets you see which streaming service has which films/shows on.

You can build up a list of what you want to watch, and see what has been added to each service daily.

I don't see that my life would be better with Netflix either. I don't understand why some people like that so much and other people don't understand why I am happy watching so much BBC. Horse for courses. smile

I'm always a little suspicious that they don't seem to publish their catalogue in the same way that say Amazon Prime do.

Meanwhile, just started on latest series of Fauda which is excellent.

There’s plenty of good content depending on what you are into.

Netflix has never been about the latest/greatest films imo, it’s about box sets.

I subscribe for a couple of months a year as a few years ago exhausted all the content (a lot of binge-ing biggrin).
Disney has little apart from a load of old films (the ones I want to have seen, I have already seen), although Big Sky series is great.
Amazon has loads of films, not so many decent box sets, although Bosch is excellent.
AppleTV+ bettter now, but just subscribe for couple of months a year (or free if you buy a new Apple product from time to time) and binge on the stuff you like.
The odd OK stuff on iPlayer/ITV etc.

So, they all have good and bad stuff. If you can’t find decent content, you’re not searching right or have very specific requirements biggrin

I will say Netflix probably has best UI and easiest to find what one wants. Amazon updated recently and is slightly better but still poor in comparison, Disney+/AppleTV not much better either!

Unless you've been living under a rock you'd not expect Disney films on Netflix as you'd know that Disney has their own streaming service.

I personally wouldn't pay full whack for Netflix but for under a fiver for my Turkish subscription it is decent value.

As opposed to four channels all together on one box?

Agreed, it’s a bit of a mess, but I just cycle round streaming services now with a rule of just having one sub at a time. Once I’ve seen what I want on one, move to another. Now I’m up to Date with Star Wars and The Patient on Disney I’m going bin that for a bit and get Now TV for the Last of Us.

Netflix has some truly great TV series, but their film selection is not the best since Paramount and Disney started hoovering up their own IP.

We have Disney, Now, Paramount, Netflix, Prime and Apple (on a free trial which is an easy one to drop as it's useless). Even remembering how or where to access them- BT box or Fire or Now TV box or TV app. Arghhh.
