Barclays mobile app - again
Discussion
I have no idea why Barclays mobile app is so unhelpful but it is, I tried to switch to a new phone today, the app loaded on my new device and asked for a 5 digit code, except on my existing phone the app was set up with a 6 digit code, which it now.no longer recognized, ok so I essentially re register on the existing phone, and can new log in.
Now here is where it gets funky the new app says use your mobile number to get an activation code or use you existing app to generate a QR code, I think ok will use the existing version and generate a QR code, do that and lo and behold, it then opens a new window asking for my mobile number…..why give you a choice of QR code if it ends up back at the other choice???
The reason I didn’t want to use my mobile number is I currently don’t have a UK mobile number, and the app only recognizes UK numbers, not their fault, but v frustrating nonetheless!

Anyone complaining about the Barclays app hasn't used the NatWest one. Utter garbage.
I do recall setting up Barclays on my dads ipad recently though I had to activate it via their cash point.
The option simply didn't exist. After much back and forth I tried the machine next to it and the option was on that one. Why they have different cash machines that have different menu options I have no idea.

Barclays was my only UK account when I left in 1999, so I am stuck with them, despite their huge incompetence. Nearly everything I instruct them to do is misunderstood and leads to errors and delays, so much so that it must take real talent to bugger things up so consistently.
It is quite frustrating that the Barclays app does not function with non-UK mobile phones. Every time I call them to correct the latest clusterf
k they have committed, I am constantly told that I can use the app. When I inform the hapless individual at the other end that the app doesn't work with foreign phones s/he always seems totally surprised by this revelation.
Early last year I transferred most of my GBP funds/transactions to a UBS sterling account in Geneva, which costs more in bank charges. However at least they are competent, the app works and I can quickly speak to a Swiss advisor if necessary, rather than waiting in line for 25 minutes to speak to someone in Bangalore reading from a script. But for the two <£50/month DDs for UK-based legacy life insurance policies, (which can't be handled from a non-UK account without massive charges), I would have told Barclays to FOAD some time ago.
As a comparison, the (French bank) Crédit Mutuel app works perfectly well from on my Swiss mobile phone, even for an account registered to my secondary residence in France.

Oh I get that if you’re a standard UK user it’s probably fine, it’s just the daft choice of options that lead to the same conclusion that seems odd, Face ID can’t be set up either, I will have to dig out the last sim I used in France/Uk and see if I can get that to at least accept a text, it may be time to move my remaining GBP to Canada.

The Barclays app is awful, amazing how such a major bank can get the UX so wrong.
I don't have much trouble with it, but then I don't try to do anything complex. It did annoy me that the names I have assigned to my accounts in online banking did not appear on the app, and I had to set them up again manually. I was getting very annoyed with it the other day when I was trying to pay a cheque in, but that turned out to be my fault.Gassing Station | Finance | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
