Try something like Libby.
It's a book/audiobook app that links to a library account. Just join a library and enter your details into the Libby app, and you get free access to a host of books, magazines and audiobooks. Much better than a lot of free services that give you a poor selection of old classics only.
I use it to read magazines on my tablet and to listen to audiobooks in the car.
