Omega Seamaster Plain Face
Discussion
Afternoon all,
Does anyone know anything about the plain-faced Omega Seamaster 300m?
I was recently at a work conference in the US and I was wearing my black, plain-faced Seamaster when I got asked if my watch was a fake because the face doesn't have the waves that are usually found on the Seamaster.
I was in the middle of explaining that I also have the watch in blue and that I bought both watches new from Omega retailers when another guy chipped in and said that the plain faces are actually quite rare!?
Up until this conversation, I had never thought about it but I bought the plain faces because I preferred them to the waves, and my guess now is that perhaps there aren't that many of them available because they didn't sell very many as the waves on the Seamaster are a defining feature.
I have tried to research online but can't seem to find anything other than they were only made between 2012 and 2017. So I thought I would ask on here if anyone knew anything about them and why there doesn't seem to be an abundance of them available second-hand.
Am I right in thinking that they just weren't as desirable as the wave-faced watches and thus didn't sell very many? Or is there an abundance of them around and I just can't find them available for sale?
Looking at Watchfinder, they currently only have one black plain face. Just wondering if any knowledgeable person knows anything about them!

I remember these in the shops. I think the lack of them around is due to the fact, the period they were on sale is when the premium watch market was very very static/slow. It was the era of Smart Watches... Prior to this plain dial version, there was hype around the seamaster with Wavey dial from the 007 marketing.
Discounts on Rolex Subs incl Hulk and GMT and even AP RO and PP Aquanaut. How times have changed... I don't think we will ever go back to those days of a buyers market but should be getting closer to be able to buy from AD at retail.

Seem to be plenty around for sale; over 40 blue ones on C24 from a quick look.
Ahh, yes, just checked Chrono 24, you're right, there are a few around. Interesting, so on C24 there are 9 Black and 9 Blue plain face Seamasters for sale in the UK.
And with a rough search, there are about double the amount for sale in the blue and black in the 42mm that have the ceramic bezel.
Ok, so not as rare as my American colleague seemed to think then!
Thanks for all your replies, I have quite enjoyed travelling down that little rabbit hole this afternoon trying to find information on them!
Watches are fascinating. It's a shame that I can't seem to find anything further about them and why they decided to do them with the plain face and only for 6 years, but I appreciate everyone's replies!

I am pretty sure they dropped the wave pattern because they moved to ceramic dials and they couldn't manufacture them with the wave at the time. Watches are fascinating. Omega have done a significant amount of R&D with ceramic and ceramic manufacturing techniques so I guess by 2018 they had figured it out.
The previous generation was in production for 6 years as well.

That's true. A friend has one of these with that strap and it is particularly lovely. I'm going through a phase at the moment of wanting a black watch and was very tempted to go for one of these, but I am just not sure of spending £8k on one knowing that its likely to go out of 'fashion' in the not-too-distant future..
