The evil red light

Can the red charging light come on if the battery is being over charged due to a failing alternator?. This recently happened in traffic for about a minute but the voltage gage was reading 14 volts.. normally reads 13 volts. The alternator was changed about a year ago. Has anyone else had this problem..The cars 94 griff and doesnt not have a fuseable link.

Yes, mine did it, rectifier or regulator, can't remember which. Should cost around £40-50 for the replacement part fitted.
