The only positive to come from the pandemic was the realisation that home or hybrid working was a good idea! It meant when it was time to px my Jag XE 300 Sport, I could buy something far more silly ??. The fuel costs had I been doing my 30 mile per day commute plus the mileage on the car wouldn't have worked, but 2days a week in the office and 21mpg is less offensive.
Got this at a little over 2yrs old 3800 miles on the clock. I've had it for nearly 11 months now and still love it. Yes the Competition would have been nice, but the extra cost wasn't worth it. Took it to the Lake District in the summer and yes, you can fit a large 5-man tent, travel fridge, camping stove, inflatable mattress and proper bedding as well as luggage and the Mrs! Practical too

Very nice!
It is pretty much identical to mine as well. Mine is a December 2018 model and I personally didn't want the CP because the design of the wheel isn't my favourite, plus with them being 20" instead of the 19" wheels it would've ruined the already terrible ride even more I think.
You've got the ICON headlights on yours(I think?) and I really like those.
Keep enjoying it.

Thanks 😁 I agree that the 20" CP wheels would have been horrendous on Oxfordshire rural roads, which are rapidly becoming a chain of potholes and cracks connected by thin ribbons of tarmac.

Yes it has the ICON headlights, which are awesome.

Here's another pic of the M4
Thought it would be time to go through a potted history of the cars I've owned some fun, some cool, and some disappointing or downright terrible
First up the predecessor to the Bimmer, Jag XE R-Sport 30t AWD this was the first car I had bought from new with the spec I wanted. It was great 300bhp petrol, comfortable and that colour!

Before that came the money pit that was an A5 3.0 TDI Quattro, by the time I sold it the new owner had a car with all new ancillaries and I had a massive hole in my bank account

Then came the second of my forays into golf GTi ownership after writing off my previous MX5 in a very nasty aquaplaning incident on the A34. The Golf was a bit meh to be honest

And onto the aforementioned MX5 the second (well second and a half if you count the project car that a mate and I bought about 18yrs ago with a blown head gasket) I have only found one photo of it which was after hitting both crash barriers twice and damaging EVERY panel. Before that it was a scruffy but mechanically sound UK 1.6 with a decat 2" Stainless exhaust. I miss this car!

Before that was the 1.7 Ford Puma (photo from Google although the actual car makes an appearance in the background of the RX7 coming up). I really wasn't blown away with it at all, but I know a lot of people love them.

Then we have the Cavalier which I bought off a mate as a stopgap leaking radiator drank a litre every 30 miles, but it cost me £125 so can't complain. No photo here but again features in the background of one of the RX7 shots.
OK so the RX7 FC3S 1990. Bought as stock had it for about 8years did so much to it. Let's start with yr 1. Ran it stock for a while, realised that the bonnet was stupidity heavy on the coupe (steel unlike the convertible which was aluminium and the conv had leather seats too) found a black convertible with a blown engine and rotten sills on eBay for £150 at a scrap yard, so bought it, took the bonnet, seats and weirdly it had a Microtech DASH display too. Then the dreaded difficulty in starting happened and engine rebuild time so I see decided to go all out. Bridge port, GT4088 turbo, 3" straight through exhaust, v-mount IC and rad, Microtech LT10S ECU, removed back seats and sound deadening. When it was finished 6 months later it was estimated running 450 bhp. The thing was amazing, very twitchy on anything other than bone dry roads, but sooo visceral to drive although I was lucky to see 9mpg so not very practical. The end came when stupidity I installed a new boost controller with the plan to map it on the Dyno, but as it wasn't switched on for the drive to the Dyno at Surrey Rolling Road I inadvertently managed to cause a huge detonation the ECU showed I had a boost spike of over 6BAR when the front rotor went pop, sending apex seals through the turbo. After that I couldn't justify another £4k rebuild and that was that. This is the one car I miss above all others I've owned and I won't find another as the only FCs left are either minters that you just wouldn't modify or drift cars that have been ragged to death or have had engine swaps and the beauty of the RX7 is the 13b rotary engine.

Then we have the WRX STI wagon, fun but too easy to drive fast without feeling it. Had it for a year and decided that to have fun you needed to be well into licence loosing territory.

To be continued....

Another RX7, gen 1 this time, bought originally as a bit of a project with a mate scruffy but most importantly rust free in silver originally the plan was to run it until the engine needed a rebuild and rebuild it ourselves, but when the engine let go we were offered more than we paid for it by an enthusiast who raced 1st gens and was looking for a rust free shell. The first Golf GTi was a low mileage MK3 8v which was ok, it was comfortable, reassuring solid and nippy, but not a car I can say evoked any level of passion. However, it was a reliable mile muncher for 18 months and more economical than the RX7 which I bought around the same time.

The Golf replaced my first MX5, a jap import 1.8 v-spec green with tan leather in stunning condition. I originally had it as a company car -my boss gave me a budget of £10k for a decent 2nd hand MX5 so I found a 4yr old import with a mega spec and about 15k on the clock after 4years I bought it off the company and ran it for another 2 that was one of my favourite cars still miss it.
Don't have any digital photos of it so a Google pic
