Long story short.
31 year old who had owned driven a few quick (400+whp) cars.
Currently concentrating on my bike license but have had a hankering for a car project for a while now.
I daily a 1.6 mk1 focus and lately have come up with the crazy idea to just use the focus as a project.
I was wanting rwd but I don’t think it bothers me to much. This will be a project to see what I can do and not all about power.
I was thinking of looking for the closest track/hill climbs and seeing what I could do stock and then slowly building up over time to see what makes a difference. I’d love to time each upgrade to see what time it knocks off. Including professional guidance etc.
Good idea ? Or just buy something else ?

Wouldn't you be better working on something that you had a better chance of selling down the line. Not sure the market for modified FWD Focus's is the same as say a RWD MK1 MX5. Not sure there's a right or wrong answer but it would be something I would think about if it were me doing it,

Had a mk2 mx5 rolling shell last year but just didn’t have the time / money to get it going. Most need welding which isn’t a problem but a pain. Mk1 prices have shot up. Long gone are the days you could pick up a decent rwd car for decent money. 500 quid e36 / 46 325 328. Not fair.Of all the cars I’ve had the most memorable / fun was a stripped out mk1 1.1 saxo.

Go balls deep and do a bike project instead
It's absurd how quick I lost interest in cars when I passed my bike test a few weeks back.
Picking up a washing machine on wheels for a daily runaround soon, I have the bike for fun now
Must admit I can’t wait to get on a bike.

There's a thread on here somewhere where a mk1 focus has had rwd cosworth running gear installed (from a Sierra I assume)... If the focus is in good condition then it could be a decent base car
Exactly what I was thinking.Look up flexus.
I was thinking just messing about as much as I could with the 1.6 and then using a4 quattro or even TT haldex running gear to make it a little different.
