Just bought one of these:

https://www.lecreuset.co.uk/en_GB/p/signature-stai...

and doing the initial seasoning with oil, took my eyes off the ball, and managed to burn it in.

I've used boiling water several times, and tried scratching it with the edge of a metal spoon and it manages to scrape through a little bit. Just wondering if there's any issue using something like a brillo pad on it? regular pan scourer better?

Lots of bicarb with a tiny bit of water, and give a good scrub. Hopefully will get it off.

Alternatively, put a dishwasher tablet in the pan and pour over about a pint of boiling water. Leave for a few hours and it should uld come off easily

I did that! Tried vinegar and bicarbonate which shifted it a bit but in the end used Bar Keepers Friend cream. Mind you my pan wasn’t brand new.

I'd use a good old fashioned Brillo Pad, they are made of steel wool which is softer than ST/ST so it shouldn't scratch the pan.

Personally I'd just use a metal scourer and get it all off. Doesn't seem to impact my stainless steel pans. It's one of the reasons I like them, they're very robust and easy to look after

Yes this, and I use a cleaner made for cleaning coked oils from turbine engine components, and it also listed for cleaning (aircraft) ovens as it happens. Works great on my pots that have baked on carbon deposits that scrubbing doesn't move. Available in handy sized 25L and 200L containers. smile

The metal utensils I use to scrape the well done bits have scratched the pans to b***ery. They still cook fine.

Chefs know. yes

You need to get chemical warfare on it as nothing else is going to do anything.

I suspect a strong alkaline drain cleaner would be perfect. I use it on Yorkshire pudding tins where the oil has burned in.

There was no need to season a stainless steel pan, you generally only do this with cast iron to prevent it rusting.

As others has said be wary of using metal to scrape the residue off or you may scratch the stainless steel. A good strong oven cleaner will sort it.

well they said to in the instructions to be fair.

Well exciting pan update... Tried first with the dishwasher tablet, that was pretty good, got rid of about 60% of the stuff, I think because that got rid of most, the bartenders friend didnt do much. So on to the over cleaner, Oven brite definitely shifted the hard to get off stuff, 4 hours a lot was gone, but it was drying out, so washed it and started again and left it overnight. Got most of it off.

That was a headache! Going to have to be a lot more careful from now it would appear!

Just use a scouring pad on it. I've been using them on my stainless steel pans for about 15 years and they still work fine. No need to be precious

+1 for scourers.. I thought that was one of the benefits of SS pans is not having to baby them like teflon stuff

Oven Pride makes an amazing job of cleaning metal and glass cooking stuff. The dirtiest of items look like new after using it.

It will also burn the hair off your arms if you splash it on yourself. biglaugh
