Hi, my S2 has just thrown a good one. The steering wants to lurch left or right and then sticks, with a bit of extra force it will move again. I have had a play around under the bonnet and became suspicious of the bulkhead bearing as it has a bit of play in it. The UJs seem alright but I am no expert on steering. Would play in the b/head bearing/bush give these symptoms. Cheers in advance for any help.

I would lay the blame for that sympton firmly on your steering
u/j's... the knotchey feel to the steering is what happens when the joints stiffen up due to wear and water ingress causing rust within the joint. I would start by removing the bottom one and feeling the movement... if it is stiff replace it. A new one swivels quite freely...tvrparts.com do em....

The top UJ in particular suffers from heat off the exhaust. When you replace it/them, fit a gater to protect them from heat and dirt. A generic steering rack end gater does the job perfectly, and conveniently comes in pairs.
