Central locking on hot days (and speedo LCD)

Hello all,
Going to look at a 1994 500 tomorrow, which I am informed by the enthusiastic previous owner has an issue with the central locking on hot days (probably a rare occurence then!)

Apparently when you operate the remote the alarm etc. switches off as usual but the doors don't unlock. On cool days it's fine, and also it's regardless of whether the car has been driven/warmed.

I've read through the archives on dubious connections and door solenoids etc. but has anybody had any problems affected by temperature?

Also, he says the LCD screen on the speedo goes dark and illegible on hot days also (but it still counts the miles OK).

LCD. On a Griffith? Must be an aftermarket instrument?

Some of the later griffs/chims had a LCD odometer (from 99 on i think?), so maybe its had a replacement.

Yes, all the instruments were replaced about 4k miles ago - not sure why. Black bezels instead of the usual silver ones, but they look very smart anyway.

Just got back from wandering round the great gathering of Griffs at the Growl - what a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
