WoS in the airport

I'm off flying for the first time in three years or so, with a teeny bit of bonus cash. There's a Watches of Swizzle sticks at the airport; is there any associated price advantage in general?
None at all. The VAT retail export scheme has gone so everything is RRPEdited by Sporky on Saturday 28th January 09:04

Nothing to be gained over going to your local branch
To confirm, the is NO DUTY FREE from the UK anymore. When the devil ran the country for those disastrous few weeks, she said it would come back under her leadership (lack of) but when Sunak took over, he reverted her decision and kept the UK as NO DUTY FREE.
Depending on what you are buying, usually a discount is available.
I flew from T5 in Sep 2022 and bought a JLC from Harrods airside.
I managed to negotiate a 17% discount. At the end of the day, there is no harm in asking.

The thing is they have a monopoly airside so it may be difficult to secure a discount.
If your local town centre has a WOS and say a Fraser Hart down the street you could “play one against the other”.
There really is no advantage to watch shopping at the airport anymore. I note the chunky discount on the JLC above but could that also have been offered in any shop…?
Also with the time pressure (a flight to catch) you may find yourself rushed into making a decision. In all honesty I would buy the watch in the UK when you can visit a few shops, relax and take your time.

The discount was part luck and part negotiation. The combination I wanted was actually discontinued (a few months before hand). I looked everywhere for one in the UK and none had it, the only thing that had changed was the black strap was no longer the current model, instead it was now brown. HK had stock and as that was my final destination, I was going to buy it there. Luckily for me Harrods had one in the cabinet and I asked how much.If your local town centre has a WOS and say a Fraser Hart down the street you could “play one against the other”.

The SA replied with the price (old) and it was cheaper than the current RRP with the brown strap. So cheekily I said that this combo is now discontinued so what discount can you offer...? She checked her book and offered 15%, I negotiated up to 17%.
As they say, a right result for me, as it ended up cheaper than HK by £500!
Well enough of my lucky purchase story, here are some pics:

Ta! So basically, Duty Free rides again?
I'm going to Spain if that makes any difference. Thinking Grand Seiko, or there's a Longines I really like.
Much obliged.
Depending on where in Spain, but if nearby then Gib is usually a good shout for many discounted items. Park by the border for 15E for the day and walk over and back again ... I'm going to Spain if that makes any difference. Thinking Grand Seiko, or there's a Longines I really like.
