It seems that every Mk3 Focus I see has a door seal hanging off. Is this the new Mondeo with gaffa taped bumper or Vauxhall Insignia without a front badge?

Are there any more recent examples of cars with such a ubiquitous problem?

I live in a village of 250 houses. There are 3 Focus (Focii?) in the village, every one is like that.

Early Qashqais with gaffer tape over a broken tailgate handle is a fairly common one.

Literally just need glued back in place. Its a 30 second job. You can do it with superglue.

That's not really the point though. The issue seemingly affects every Focus just like the broken Mondeo bumpers of old...

Add the Ford badges where the blue has worn away to reveal a skanky chrome oval.

Are people actually surprised that a Ford, built by the 'Kings of Penny Pinching', isn't lasting? rofl

You ladies are going to have a field day when the current modern crap on sale today reaches 15 years old.

I thought that this morning. Looking in the rear view mirror at the nice LED headlamps of a new Renault Arkana. I thought, Hmm, what happens when it's out of warranty or 10 years down the line?

It's always been the same though. A 15 year old car in the 1990s when I was young was a bit of a rarity as they just didn't last that long. I remember being pretty embarrassed driving round in my Dad's 12 year old Peugeot 305 estate with visible rust on the bodywork. A 12 year old car now is an 11/61 plate and there are loads about all looking fairly well for it. I'd venture that in 15 years time, the new ICE cars being sold now will still be rolling round looking fairly presentable.

What it means is that a light frontal writes it off.

Good one, thats definitely a thing.

And yes, the Focus with the hanging door seals. My dads 2016 one did the same. I put them back on a few months ago and i *think* they are still on.....for now.

I was in one the other day with the seal pulled into the passenger compartment and tied around the interior door handle.

Having seen so many of them hanging out it did remind me of the Mondeo gaffer tape debacle.

There was actually a whole website for it but all that's left is the PH thread: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Unsure why, but the earliest Toyota Yaris on sale until around 2006, usually a dented rear apron ie the bit below the bumper.

That (Kings of Penny Pinching) seems a little harsh on Ford. In the 30s they introduced a policy called ‘thrifting’ where cost could be removed from a car by eliminating or cheapening small items eg trim. It would surely be naive to assume that other makers of cars produced in large numbers would not follow suit. Over time, we have had many Fords in our extended household and they have been little different to any other brand for using cheap bits. VW used to be a cut above but those days seem to have gone.
