Hi Guys,

In my attempt to narrow down a new daily I have been taking a look at swapping out my ageing Macan and stepping into a Panamera Sport Turisimo, they do seem to be a lovely place to be, big interior upgrade from my first gen Macan and definitely not ready to go full EV.

I have been looking at the 2.9V6 E-Hybrid models, now the quoted range is 31 miles, which I suspect is probably bobbins. But some questions if anyone could shed some light on that would be ace.

1. What ranges are you actually seeing? I would say most of the daily journeys are about 12-15 miles on a Monday to Friday, it would be great if those could be covered off on pure electric would probably bring a good cost saving for these short journeys which the Diesel just isn't made for.
2. The battery being relatively small do you ever charge up on just a 3 pin plug rather than going to the faff of having a home charger installed? Does it replenish over night for example?
3. Real world MPG figures what do you actually see? And is it massively hampered if it has no battery to mix in with the engine?

Cheers,
Trent

Hi Trent,

it has been a while but I had the E-Hybrid Sports tourismo. I was generally happy with the car but the real electric range was about 25 km, sometimes even less. Also, if I did prolonged Autobahn runs, the battery would drain quickly leaving you with about a 100 bhp less and it did use quite a bit of fuel then. Still liked it a lot and can reccomend it.

Overnight charging with a 3 pin will be possible overnight.

My Leaf with a 6kWh charger would charge from 20% to 100% overnight using 3 pin and that had a 30 kWh battery.

If it's like most EV's, range quoted at 31 miles then 20 miles should be possible but it's very weather dependent.

I had a facelift 4S and was getting the full 30 miles on electric alone. Was getting excellent MPG for such a big powerful car for longer journeys too. Route guidance activation + sticking it in Hybrid Auto and it would work out when to use/charge batteries on your journey to get best MPG. I remember 40mpg for longer journeys and better.
For my usage I was filling up every 900-1000miles. Charged on 3 pin plug and would finish by 3am having started at 7pm. New gen wont allow total battery depletion so you keep the full power.
It's bloody clever especially if you do lots of shorter journeys, you can absolutely slash your fuel burn. Loved it so much I ordered the 700hp Turbo S EH ST which lands next week.

Have a 2015, and the range is 11 miles or so. Overnight on the 3 pin certainly works, plus the odd charge on a charger when parked up somewhere. Other than that, I tend to hit the e-charge button, and charge it up when pootling around. It's at it's best, IMHO, on a long run, when letting it decide how to power itself. Very odd doing eighty with the engine off smile
