SLK250 CDI alternatives 10-12k

Hi all,
Looking to change my current car and looking for alternatives for a SLK250 CDI 2012. Prefer the look of coupes but open to hatchbacks just not any saloons.
I personally like the look of the merc but I know it has the woman/hairdresser stigma which is putting me off.
Going to see a really nice speced one at the weekend and thought l would see any other alternatives.
Also if there is any faults or issues to look out for on the car that would be great!

Grow up man! If you like the look of it, then that's all that matters. What other people might think is an irrelevance. I really like the Merc SLK/SLC. I also like the Range Rover convertible, and the Micra C+C. epson661 said:

If you're set on a diesel it may be worth looking at the SLK250d rather than CDI as it is a Euro6 so allowed in all the clean air zones which may make it an easier sell when you come to get rid.Looking to change my current car and looking for alternatives for a SLK250 CDI 2012. Personally, I would have a 250 petrol as the 2.1 diesel is quite... agricultural. You can really hear it clattering away when you've got the roof down. Not to mention the petrol will easily do 35-40mpg so the fuel saving in a diesel one is minimal.
I have an 09 R171 SLK350 so +300hp and really like the 'format' of a tin top convertible and its brisk. Its for sale due to change of job and I have a similar dilema.
I believe the 250d's are as quick once mapped. I would miss the noise but I would love the economy - outside of a z4 g29 M40i I don't think you can get both?
Alternatives are Z4's E89 and TT's - but if you need the economy only the TT can drink from the dirty pump.
In terms of what to watch for on the SLK's; rearsubframe rot, roof leaks (rare), delamination of the glass roof panels if fitted, defo go for heated seats and air scarf etc - you can get a gadget to mirror your iphone to the screen. The later cdi's have the ZF autobox which is better than the merc box. They are a really nice GT car.
Have you thought about a bigger alternative; SL350cdi, E350cdi coupe with pano roof, 3/4 series convertible, 2 series convertible......

As another poster has mentioned the SLK 350 they are great - we have the R172 - great spec, great noise and not bad on fuel 28-32 mpg on a run and 25 around town. Quick cars too! I agree with the comments re the slk 250d - had the same in engine in a c-class and it was very agricultural...

on my 2009 R171 I get 22 round town and at best 33 on a motorway run - it sounds great and has plenty of grunt when you need it but I do find the auto box a bit dim witted. I look at what the bimmer m40i's do MPG wise with envy tbh....
In terms of SLK image - people just dont know - hence they're a bit of a bargain in my view!
