Hi All,

Another what car thread from me, but this time for the wife. Her criteria:

- 0-62mph in sub 8 seconds (minimum 170 horse power)
- good handling
- good looking (subjective I know)
- lower than 75k mileage
- petrol
- Automatic
- no older than 2009
- She wants a touch screen stereo, though I have said this can be installed later if the other things are ticked.
- She ideally prefers a smaller car, so estates and saloons are not high up on her list

We have shortlisted the following so far and seen a few models on AT but none look appealing due to condition, MOT history etc.:
- Alfa Romeo Gulietta 1.4 multiair
- Audi A1 1.4 Tsi
- BMW 1 series F20 118i (with 170hp 1.6 engine)
- Audi A3

I wonder if there are some other cars we haven't considered?

How about a VW Scirocco - 2.0l TSI DSG / 200 BHP - had one for 3 years - great looking / solid & tunable if you so wish.

My pick would be the often forgotten Clio RS200 it's a sweet steer & because of the greatness of the previous Clio RS models, you'll get a nice low mileage example:

Giulietta wise I'd go for the 1750tbi:

Apologies, just seen the replies on this thread now. Thanks for all the contributions.

Wife just sent me this: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202302154...

Not sure if the 1.4 TSI S-Tronic is reliable? A poster above said be careful with this engine in Polo.

This was also recommended by a poster above: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202301243...

Great leftfield choice, but I don't know anything about them. Are the Lancer autos reliable and worth a punt?

I don't really like to recommend what I have, but does a BMW 1 series coupe/convertible not tick most of your boxes?

This looks like a great example, it's 2008 but based on the mileage it'll be in good condition. No touch screen radio either but it is an option on some.

You might want to stretch the budget by a few grand to get the wife what she wants. Also, touch screen stereos are turd, I'd avoid if possible

Here's a decent Giulietta
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202211111...

Avoid Audis/VWs/Seats/Skodas made before 2013 and avoid BMWs made before 2015, as a general rule

Other ideas

VW Polo GTI
