This One Or That One?
Discussion
I have a dilemma.
I think I've got the opportunity to buy my "One watch to end them all", a Blancpain Fifity Fathoms Automatique. Titanium, pre-owned, but unworn. 2022.
However, it transpires that the same seller has a 2019 rose gold version for not a huge amount more.
I started a thread about rose gold and got little response (albeit I've only given it a few hours - sorry, but I'm a bit excited).
Which way to jump?

Internet pics, not the actual watches.

That first pic makes an abolutely beautiful watch look crap. Steel for me, on a strap though.
It's titanium and, I beliive, is on a sailcloth strap, but I couldn't find a picture. Which, for a 'new' watch, is a little disconcerting. Hopefully it has the ti bracelet with it, but I won't be using it.ziggy328 said:
I’d go rose all day long. Titanium looks like a Seiko. Second watch looks special.
The gold does look good but I'd never considered one because of the cost. As per my other thread, I don't wear 'gold' jewellery (I have two bronze watches), so don't want to blow a decent five figure sum on a rose gold watch that I won't wear. But I also don't want to spend a slightly smaller sum on a ti watch and always think of it as the poor relation.Bloody dealers. :grr:
Both.
You're here for a good time, not a long time.
If pushed, the rose gold on the black looks pretty damn special.
Both are stunning but for me, it's black face over blue every day of the week. The gold is relatively understated and contrasts nicely with the black bezel.
TBH it's a hard choice, I'd also be tempted of the blue on a black strap, but for me once I've seen the gold / black there's no alternative, if I was fortunate enough to have the choice.

For my 2 pennith worth,
Go big or go home ...
You will not be disappointed the dial and case .... That rose gold is super special
The only fly in the ointment is ... and I say this as I have a BP FF NR that's steel with black face and sailcloth strap, Mine was bought 2nd hand and although i've worn it as a daily for 2 years, It's always not been 'special' like other purchases bought unworn/new
Would you look at the Rose Gold as not special as not bought new??

Personally I can’t see that fly. At all. Watches to me at least are the same as cars. So not a problem. Go big or go home ...

I would lean towards the gold.
Will this be an ‘everyday’ watch? Or a special occasion wear?
The steel might be a more discreet daily wearer but if the chance to go gold for not much more presents itself you’ll forever think what could have been
It won't be 'every day'. I've just done a deal on an Omega AT and a Panerai. I also have a dozen less expensive watches ranging from Magrette to Oris. Will this be an ‘everyday’ watch? Or a special occasion wear?

Gold seems to be winning.

No, because of cost.
Last year, when I sold a business, I nearly bought a PP Nautilus to congratulate myself. I didn't, (was too busy) amd now I'm glad, because I'm not sure they're worth the money (to me) and the used values appear to be sliding.
So I adjusted my 'acceptable spend' downwards, and consequently, I wouldn't buy a £30k watch new. I would buy a £10-15k one though, if I felt it was 'worth it'. A pre-owned gold FF (or an unworn ti one) is probably worth it.

I went out specifically to buy a gold(ish watch last week - I did so after buying some brown clothes (yes - I just admitted that online
)
I looked at 100+ photos of the watch on various sites and they all looked slightly different. When I tried it on it just didn't do anything for me
Look at them both side by side in the flesh and make the call. I'd go with the Ti blue though (and I did)

These watches are several thousand miles away, and I'm not keen on visiting a dealer in the UK to try on watches I have no intention of buying.Which is probably a bit daft, on reflection...
