I found this interesting. This dealership goes tits up and blames Jaguar and Land Rover for atrocious quality and repair costs. I was never a fan of the two, always went with the Germans personally, but is JLR really that much worse than the German Big Three?

Statically speaking, they've been joke-level atrocious for about five years now.

So an experienced (30 yrs in business) garage kept buying JLR product that then caused its downfall, could they not see a trend and cease buying these cars????

As someone said, if like Ratner, blaming the quality of the product.

Bit weird… normally if the original product is loved but underdeveloped or unreliable, the indie market that grows around it is very buoyant indeed!
TVR a good example.

My local 4x4 specialists used to be Toyota dealers. They’re now mainly LR repair specialists. They’ve expanded four-fold in size I’d guess. That’s where the money is.

Is that because Toyotas don't break down as frequently as any LR ?

In my very small sample, I have a bmw (one minor sensor fault in 106k miles and 5 years from new. We have various BMWs at work all the same. Audi’s similar….. people I know with JLR the two Land Rover discovery sports, one Range Rover vogue have all been dreadful (one disco returned)… only good one was a sport SVR.
Shame as they are lovely cars to be in. The vogue owner has gone for a new vogue hybrid, see how that pans out!

They are quite appalling. I’d not buy one unless new/nearly new one with a solid warranty. Even then, I’ve known people have cars in the dealers for 6 months out of 12 for issues. Most appear electrical issues and JLR dealers IME just change large chunks of control modules. This takes some time. It’s a shame because when the work they are genuinely lovely places to be.

My anecdotal experience is the opposite - one BMW with continuous software issues, one BINI with multiple failures under warranty (one requiring a new engine), one Porsche that died on the way home from the dealer, one Audi with a suspension rattle they couldn't fix, and another with software issues.

On the JLR front there's 3 with no issues in the first 4 years of each, and one with a faulty fuel flap solenoid which was collected, fixed and returned the same day.

Mmmm Nara Bronze. Such a nice colour. I wish they kept the D4 shape and so much classier than anything made by the Germans. Not as unreliable as people make out either.

Weirdly, my dad has a 2012 XF 3.0d and its been just as reliable as his old volvo. The only thing it's needed is a pair of suspension bushes.

That's a stunning looking D4, makes me still want one despite the horror stories.

I have had worse experiences of German marques than JLR.

This story reads as crap excuse for their business failing.

They should be treated as consumables, generally last between 6 and 7 years depending on mileage. Assuming they were the front ones.

Weird that they are citing cars with less than 10k miles as particularly problematic. Surely most of these (assuming average mileage) would still be under manufacturer warranty?

Seems like they just failed to diversify their business properly.
