I was driving today on a one way, two lane road (20mph limit), I was in the left lane and a police van next to me in the right lane. We both reached lights and stopped, however when taking off again, the van seemed to be travelling at a really slow speed as I was only travelling at 17-19mph myself yet they were behind me, therefore making it seem as though I was undertaking. They did eventually pick up speed and drove ahead of me.

Therefore my question is, in this situation would this be classed as undertaking?

Thanks.

I recently approached a roundabout in the left lane with a police car on my right. As we exited the roundabout I accelerated more than the police car & pulled ahead. He made no attempt to catch up with me. At the next roundabout we both turned left & at the next we both turned right onto a 30 limit single carriageway road where I drove at 30 but he caught up to me. That road changed to 60 after 1/2 mile or so. He followed me with both of us travelling at 60. At the first straight I was doing 60 & he overtook me & disappeared at well over 60 - got a call or making a point?

Looking back through OP's thread history makes for interesting reading wobble

Everything from asking whether they'll get points on their licence for using their hazard lights to say "thank you", whether they'll get an NIP for "hesitating" at a busy roundabout, as well as a couple of threads about NIP's / potential NIP's for things that they don't appear to have actually done themselves, to querying what constitutes "handling" a phone in a car as an offence then repeating the question a month later but with the phone changed to touching a dashcam.

Ah the hesitating at a roundabout nonsense!

I’m waiting for the ‘can I reverse down a one-way street?’ question.

(Together with the replies about carrying a tape-measure and limiting and recording how far you have reversed)

Ideally you should have remained at a speed slower than the police van. Then, as they moved ahead you should have moved into the right hand lane behind them. If they continued at 17-19 mph, thus impeding your progress, you should flash your headlights to let them know they're in your way. At this point they will pull over to the left lane and posssibly give you a smile and an apologetic wave as you floor it to 21 mph and cruise past and continue your journey.

Surely, the correct behaviour at the traffic lights would have been to rev your engine whilst eyeballing the police van driver, then to engage reverse as the lights turn green to avoid crashing into that Rolls Royce and ruining your future?

Thanks for the input everyone. From the replies I’ve gathered it was a pointless question to ask anyway. Cheers

Not a daft question, in truth. When I take a slip road off a motorway, and it says ‘Use both lanes’, I endeavour to do just that.

No question is pointless if you don't know the answer, so always better to ask.
