Afternoon all,

Battery died in my track bike despite it being on a optimiser (thanks a lot oxford...)

I'm on the hunt for a new battery and am wondering if now is the time to go for a lithium ion option.

Bike is an L0 GSXR 750 track bike.
Its running a power commander and quick-shifter but other than that should have pretty much stock draw off the battery.

Do people recommend lithium ion batteries for track bikes? I know its lighter but am conscious that it being a track bike its going to have a lot of starts without a long time running to recharge.

If people think a lithium ion battery is a good option then can you recommend some manufacturers / sites to source from please.

Thanks!

I can certainly recommend the JMT lithium batteries.

I had one on my Aprilia RSV and S1000RR, both entirely without issue, charged on the old boggo Oxford Oximiser.

Thanks, were they track or road bikes?

I've had Lithium Batteries on all mine and my lads race bikes for a fair few years now
They weigh 20% of the equivalent standard battery, and I've never had any problems with them going flat or not working
Shido branded versions appear to be the best quality from what I've heard

I’ve had a few shido lithium batteries now, the one on my current Zx6r track bike has been on there for 3 years without fault, it baffles me just how good it is, I hadn’t started the bike in six months, last weekend I turned it on and it cranked with no signs of having lost any power.

100% recommended by me, all mine have been shido’s

Both but in theory it’d have less to do on a track bike anyway...

No experience of the other brands but JMT made KTM’s OE batteries for a few years.

For balance, my shido failed on my superduke GT in 15 months.
The superduke is hard on batteries though, to be fair.

No idea about track bikes but happy with the Shido on my Tracer, got it from Calsport who were cheaper than everyone else and delivered next day.

Thanks for the replies all.

Sounds like lithium ion is the way to go....

Looks like the below is the model I need just from a supplier who has it in stock!

I already have an optimate lithium ion charger so hopefully that does the job.

Or if you want to save a couple of £££ (obviously check the size/spec to ensure it's correct: -
