Porsche 997.2 - cd (single) player - mechanical error

I tried to eject a cd from the cd player in my car (997.2) and no joy - just a line beneath the local map saying 'CD player has a mechanical error'.

Turned off the cd player and then the car and no improvement. I could hear the cd mechanism trying to eject the actual cd, but it wouldn't work.

Any tricks to get it to eject and work?

Can these cd players be repaired or do they need replacing? Any idea on costs?
