What is the rev limit?

I get to 7k, seems to die, then about 7.7 and picks up again.

7.7k - I think your rev counter is broken.

OK, got it wrong.

Gets to 7k and splutters, and then up to about 7.5 to 7.7 then the limiter kicks in.

Goes all the way no prob in 2nd, after that, I get the problem.

Any ideas?

Injector problem? Spark getting blown out a high revs? I'd get it back to the factory!

Doesn't sound right. I'm not quite sure where the limit is on mine, but it's not as high as 7.7k. If it's "spluttering" then that sounds like dirty plugs or similar - I'd get it looked at.

There's a limiter that comes in just over the 7000 rpm mark. I'm assuming it's a "limiter" as opposed to something wrong! My shift lights are set 6000 rpm so I get the message to change up before I hit the limiter (which puts me off if I'm mid-corner).

Please can someone from the factory tell us what the rev limit is for the M400 and how is it limited.

Probably has the rev limit on the noble web page. Come to think of it 7700 sounds way too high.

Nope.

It does state:-

Max bhp of 425 @ 6500
Max torque of 390 lb ft @ 5000

Oh and if it's in the owners manual mine came with the manual for the 3R.

Possibly a soft-cut limiter followed by a hard-cut a few revs later ??

I thought the limit was 7.2 on a GT03, but I could be talking out my hat. Dunno for the m400 so worth ringing the factory at any rate.

The definitive answer from the factory is that on the M400 the max rpm is 7200 rpm and it's soft limited.

In 99% of cases a Softcut Rev-Limiter will mis-fire one cyl, usually intelligently, to stop RPM rising over the max allowed RPM set. A hard cut limiter will shut down all cyls until rpm drops below max allowed.

Name comes from the fact that a hard-cut limiter feels that way whereas as soft-cut is 'fairly' smooth.

If that's soft I'd hate to drive a hard limit one - it feels like the whole engine is having a cardiac arrest to me when I hit it
