Starring himself and his daughter.

Judging by whenever I have seen him lately it will be unspeakably awful. Happy to be proved wrong though.

Like you, I hope I'm proved wrong but this has all the hallmarks of being awful. It appears to be a vehicle for his "comedian" daughter, yet another nepo-kid? She isn't funny and I seriously doubt she'd get this job without being related. John Cleese has clearly lost the plot over recent years, he seems to spend most of his time ranting about cancel culture, BBC, etc. Sadly he's become an 83 year old caricature of himself. The other writer, Connie Booth, of the original has nothing to do with this reboot. Her input is often underestimated. The track record of reboots is generally bad.

Hope I'm wrong though.

Basil can't exist on TV now. So how can the reboot work?

I'm a huge fan of Fawlty Towers, but fail to see how a reboot could make it onto today's TV screens without Basil being a hollowed out shadow of his character.

A reboot wouldn't work in this age. Just thinking about the Manuel character (now a Romanian?) would show you that.

You can't improve on perfection. This will be an awful unfunny disaster.

No Major, because he's totally non PC, was on dodgy ground in the mid 70s! No Old Dears, not PC to make fun of dotty old women. No Manuel, racist against the Spanish, No alcoholic Chef, discrimination against someone with a disability, see also the Irish builder, racial stereotypes.

And that is all before we get to Basil...

It could be the funniest thing to ever be on British television but it'll get panned because Cleese is now viewed as a stale right wing anti-woke dinosaur.

As expected The Guardian has already panned it before they've seen it.

If their is a Major you can guarantee it will be a one armed black lesbian transsexual that'll joke about white people

I can't see any way this won't be terrible. I hope I'm wrong.

This might be his end-of-term assignment from re-education camp? He'll run around flagellating himself in response to various bumbling misadventures before delivering a solemn sermon on the hurt he has caused and deeply apologize. Maybe the long-lost daughter will be the character who sets the old curmudgeon to 2023 social expectations.
