He wrote some very, very good music. Some of it sounded fairly simple but was in fact quite complex.

Surprised there aren't more responses to this. But then, is the average PHer into lounge jazz? Just wait til Ozzy Osbourne croaks it.

As a new wave kid I loathed Burt Bacharach, because of what his music stood for. But as I got older I learned to get past that to what actually mattered: he wrote some incredible tunes that were much more sophisticated musically than they appeared and have stood the test of time. RIP Burt.

Genius.
So many songs that once delved into the arrangement reveal their complexity.
A couple of my friends had the pleasure with working with him.
RIP

I've felt similar, at one point the only "acceptable" song of his was one particular version of "Walk on by", but more recently I've heard other stuff of his, and people like Carole King, and enjoyed it. For the latter, there has been at least one very interesting documentary on BBC4 about her life, and that probably helped.

A lovely medley of Bacharach songs put together by The Carpenters.
R.I.P Mr Bacharach.

BBC4 tonight at 20:00 there is an hour long show of various artists performing his songs. I assume it will be available on iPlayer soon after it airs.
