Whats the latest with towing trailers these days?
Discussion
My fitter has a license issued in 2017. Doesn't include B&E sections, and therefore he cannot tow a trailer (as I understand it)
Does he have to go to trailer school for this, or has it been the law been changed again, and if he has a replacement license, will he have entitlement reinstated?
Talk about sowing the seeds of confusion.

Everyone was automatically given B+E entitlement at the end of 2019.
Therefore he has the licence to drive a vehicle up to 3.5t GVW towing a trailer up to 3.5t GVW (within the towing limits of the vehicle obviously).
If he orders a new photocard it will show B+E.
Bear in mind if this is for business then there may be a requirement to record drivers hours or even use a tacho.

If he goes to https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence he should be able to check without sending off for a new license. Therefore he has the licence to drive a vehicle up to 3.5t GVW towing a trailer up to 3.5t GVW (within the towing limits of the vehicle obviously).

I have B+E on my photocard (as I happened to renew it last year) but the online check doesn't show me as having B+E.

I would seriously suggest a little training before you send him out on his own with a car on the trailer, and he has to turn round in a narrow cul de sac.....Does he have to go to trailer school for this, or has it been the law been changed again, and if he has a replacement license, will he have entitlement reinstated?

Swinging wide for corners, allowing for the effects of 2 tonnes behind, and reversing into a turning are the specifics I am thinking of.

Didn't know that it had changed. I passed in 1999, can I drive a tractor with a full slurry tanker on the back now or not?
A quick Google suggests that with your cat F licence you can drive/tow a max of 31T (including the tractor and trailer). Having watched some of the reversing attempts on a campsite once from those with grandfather rights, I'm not so convinced removing the trailer test was such a good idea... Fantastic entertainment though.
After 15 years of towing a horse trailer and several years towing my track car, I bought a caravan.
I am one of the few it would seem who can just reverse his 7 metre caravan onto its pitch, much to many caravan club members amazement.
Many have the cheat device fitted - a motormover, which is an electric motor that runs off the leisure battery and drives the wheels at about 3 mph. This allows the caravan owner to drive the unhitched caravan by remote control while watching all 4 corners. Given the standard of reversing on caravan sites, and the tendency of sites to be somewhat narrow, this gadget is probably not a bad idea.

I'm one with now defunct Grandfather rights.
I've been towing for decades. I wouldn't class myself as anywhere near a super reverser, although I can get the 24ft caravan on to my awkward drive
But on site I still use the mover on the caravan once I get it close to where I want it. And when you're on your own, it's a a lot easier than getting in and out of the car to make sure it's perfectly placed and perfectly level. OCD, I know.
