Im sure a while back you could pick a good one up for around £14k? just had a quick scan of the market and they are going for well over £20k now.

Sounds about right. End of an era engine that happens to be brilliantly executed in a practical car. Sold my Immaculate 2013 C63 wagon for £21k in 2030. Doh

Surprisingly they do still seem to start from £14k:

I would probably want to budget a bit more than that to get a good one, but the absolute bottom of the market is £14k.

Yeah 14k for one with over 100k miles on it is expensive considering what you could get around a year ago ! I was hoping they would depreciate further with the cost of fuel rising last year but they have done totally the opposite !

Ah ok, I was remembering the estates as being from c. £18k for a decent one in autumn 2020, but I didn't look exhaustively then.

FWIW I personally don't think the prices will ever be much cheaper than they are now. As cars get older they tend to be doing smaller annual mileages, so the cost of petrol becomes less significant overall. The W204 stands as a kind of ultimate and a good example of something that won't happen again (6.2L V8 in a small saloon), so I'd anticipate prices staying roughly stable for a bit, and then gradually rising within the next five years.

Yup never mind the other monumental and correct reasons it’s a higher price.
