Deactivating of care data services and subscriptions

I read in the multimedia manual in section 5.10 that data services essential to the correct functioning of the system expire after a 'limited period' but doesn't specify what this is. Anyone got any clue about this? It goes on to say you need to purchase to renew services using the My Alpine app via the store.
