My roof is very rarely on but I noticed yesterday that it needs a bit of a lift. It’s a very very dark blue(almost but not quite black). It’s not in a particualrly bad state but I thought I’d try to give it a little refresh.

What do others use on their roof to revive the colour?

Renovo is good for the cleaning and colour but I personally prefer fabsil gold for the proofing.

I’ve just used Renovo to clean the roof on the Mrs's Smart Convertible. The clean worked so well I won’t need to colour it.

For some reason fabisil left white marks on my roof when I tried it, could be me messing up the application but I'm going back to renovo next time as I've never had a problem with their colours or waterproofing

Will 500ml do a roof (top and rear section), or will I need a litre?

500ml bottle of colour normally does me 3 times on a black roof, I go a bit mental on the waterproofing so only get 2 goes out of that.

Get yourself a bowl to pour it in, a couple paint brushes and a pack of baby wipes. Dribbles will wipe straight off of the rear window and paintwork, you'll always get some no matter how hard you try.

Oh and rubber gloves unless you want to look a bit weird for a week.

Cleaner? Depends how many times you have to clean. If the roof is very dirty you will be doing multiple passes.

FWIW on the wife’s Smart I used about a spraycan tops worth, (maybe a bit less than a teacup full) per pass. The roof is a fair bit bigger than the one on my Chimaera. After the first wash and rinse dries off properly you’ll no doubt find bits you’ve missed and need to do again. And maybe again. Proofing should be a one pass job.

Was talking about the colour restorer - looks like a smaller bottle will do.
Not sure it really needs a clean first and it spends 99% of its time in the boot but I guess in for a penny, in for a pound.

I’ve got an old tin of Fabsil in the garage so will probably use that afterwards, assuming it hasn’t ‘gone of’ seeing as though it’s probably about 10 years old, maybe more!
