Curious as to what the average PHer does for their OH, and how unusual Mrs Bill is as she thinks it's a load of bks (Although she sometimes buys a card if she remembers.)

So I do nothing and won't be in trouble. But I do feel slightly on edge every year just in case she's turned to the dark side! hehe

I've been single for ages but even when I had relationships Valentines Day for me was always the day that I remembered from being much younger. i.e. the day that some people sent sneaky cards or presents to others that they fancied but weren't going out with. Not sure what the point of it is for established relationships.

1996 I was a taxi driver. Found a nylon/silk single red rose on the back seat.
Gave it to my wife the following year as a joke, and have done every year since.

That reminds me... I once organised a work night out without giving it much thought. Six of us (three couples) turned up to a very moodily lit meal surrounded by tables for two, got pissed and had a good laugh. In hindsight we must have looked like a bunch of swingers. hehe

Do you never wish you found out who sent that card?

I've had a few over the years where I haven't a bloody Scooby who sent them.

I sometimes think I'd like to know, I sometimes have lived to regret knowing as I've found out on occasion.

Valentines Day is, of course, just one massive wallet-emptying exercise which is very carefully marketed and touted by nearly every business in the land, irrespective of that they sell, usually at a vastly inflated price, and I tend to rail against things like that.

But, my wife is the romantic type and she does appreciate the gesture, so I have purchased a card, arranged some flowers to be delivered, and we shall be walking to a really nice gastropub which is local to us for a meal out. My mum will be babysitting. We eat out quite often, but not usually without our little boy. The pub has a great menu and the prices are the same as any other day. I wouldn't go to anywhere that inflated their prices just for valentines day.

Looking forward to it to be honest smile The wife will be happy and the food/drink will be very nice indeed, so it's a win win!

Some years it's just a card and flowers, sometimes we go out as per this time, but we don't go nuts over it. I know some people who seem to spend hundreds on elaborate gifts, jewellery, perfume, clothes, and then get absolutely turned over by going to a restaurant where they have simply added £10 to the price of everything on the menu, and crammed an extra 6 tables in!

Half of PH: "That is the best Valentine's I've had in eight years."
Jill: "What did you do eight years ago?"
Half of PH: "Just had a better one... Went to Silverstone. Shook Jackie Stewart's hand. Superb. My marriage fell apart soon after that."

Voted nothing, as there was no "bought a card" option.

I don't need a special day in a year to show my wife I love her - and she doesn't need one to show she loves me either to be fair. Been married over 20 years so we must be doing something right I guess.

It's all a load of ultra-commercialised bullst anyway, and I'm long since over going out for a meal from a crappy fixed menu that costs 3X what the same meal would cost on any other day of the year.

Get the missus a card as it's a good excuse to make a daft moon pig personalised one.

Don't go out as we both object to the inflated prices, so will probably go out at the weekend instead. Although we'd probably do that anyway regardless of Valentines day proximity.

I am buying myself a new guitar though, so that could count as a present.

Card and flowers for me, we usually 'surprise' each other even though we both know the other won't have forgotten!

Neither of us are particularly romantic, we're both busy people and although we're very close it's nice to take the opportunity to remind eachother there's more to it than business as usual. It's not just Valentine's day for us, it's also things like the anniversary of our first date and a few other memorable milestone days.

Also fairly hilariously in 10 Valentine's days together we've bought eachother exactly the same card at least 3 or 4 times.

When I was at University in London, 2 of my course mates lived in their Dads very nice apartment opposite Barkers of Kensington. The top floors of Barkers was let to the Daily Mail Group. From their apartment, you could see into the Daily Mail offices and vice versa.

So just before Valentines Day, I got a cabbie to write out a Valentines Card to them:

"Thank you for all the wonderful views. Love, all your Mail admirers." biggrin

The blinds were welded shut after that. biggrinbiggrinbiggrin I did let on it was me about 3 months later.

Usually pick up some flowers, get a card from Moonpig that says something stupid and buy a small present that'll make us both smile, this year from LoveHoney biggrin

For us, it's just an excuse to get the kids to bed a little earlier, eat on our own for once and have a laugh.
