I've been such a terrible fool
Discussion
Whilst looking for Daphne and Celeste song lyrics (don't ask) my browser was hijacked by some git of a webpage which has set itself as my homepage (www.justsurfing.com) and added a few pron sites to my favourites list for good measure. I've managed to delete these, but our system permissions don't allow us to reset our homepage.
Does anyone know what teh hotkey for this is so I can set it back to our office intranet? I'm sure its something like Ctrl-Alt-D, but can't be certain and don't want to start messing about with stuff.

This page may be of some use: www.spywareinfo.com/articles/hijacked/2.html
Assuming Windows 2000 and IE6, copy & paste the following into notepad:
Obviously, change the url in this text to your intranet start page.
Save the file to your desktop, close all internet windows, then double click this REG file... you should see a popup that says
Save it as homepage.reg (Select 'All File Types' insead of *.TXT in the save dialogue.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain]
"Start Page"="www.pistonheads.com/gassing/"
Obviously, change the url in this text to your intranet start page.
Save the file to your desktop, close all internet windows, then double click this REG file... you should see a popup that says
Click yes (duh...)
Registry Editor
Are you sure that you want to add the information in c:docu~blah to the registry?
YES|NO
Registry Editor
Information in c:docu~blah has been successfully entered into the registry
OK
So save it to that folder - doesn't have to be the desktop..
Nevin said: Thanks for all yoru suggestions, but I can't do any of those unfortunately, which is why I need the hotkeys. We have no desktop as such on our system, you can't save to any location other than a specific client folder etc. We are very restricted in what we can do.
you can do it in MS Word -just make sure you save it as a TXT file, then rename it in the folder to be a .REG file..
The latter option of dragging the icon could also still work?
Once stuff is saved to a specific folder we can then only access it using our proprietary system, which only lets us open stuff in Word, nowhere else. Dragging the icon doesn't work either unfortunately Carzee, it just brings up the not allowed circle with diagonal line through it. Hey ho.
As carzee said - but you will need REGEDIT4 at the top of the file. Copy and paste everything below the line into a text file and save as - isurfpornatwork.reg

Running programs on restricted systems 101:
Load up a program that can do Insert->Object operations (i.e MS Word/Excel etc)
I'll assume you're using Word for convenience:
Select 'Object' from the 'Insert' menu
Select the Create New tab, and locate 'Package' on the list and click OK, it should load the Object Packager
In the object packager, select 'Command Line' from the edit menu. In the dialog type the command you wish to excecute - 'Regedit.exe' or 'cmd.exe' are usually good candidates.
Click OK and the command line should appear in the right-hand pane of the object packager. Double-click the right hand pane to execute the command.
It may work, but it depends how clever your Sysadmin is really.

Moleamol, the simplest solutions are always the best and my homepage has now returned to normal. Thank you all.
As for the Daphne and Celeste lyrics, we have been spending most of this relatively quiet work day firing emails around containing song lyrics, and we have sunk as far as this. To be fair though, it doesn't get much better than "You got facial hair like a polar bear".

Glad I could be of service
