drivers door spring hinge pop / noise
Discussion
almost since new my drivers door integrated hinge sometimes feels .. off. When it misbehaves there is a resonant pop usually as the door is opened - or just a creak.
Looking at the hinge area what happens is the hinge resists at its detent area for a little too long and literally pulls its mount out very slightly which then pops/jumps back with a loud noise that resonates through the whole car.
the hinge is a non typical spring design I think renault parts bin type thing something like this

anyone gone down this path know a part number, or know if it can be lubed.

yeah mine is either (a) silent -- if it is being open/shut a few times in a row (b) creaks -- if it has been left for a short while or (c) creaks then pops -- if it has been closed for a several hours or days.
heat may also be a factor.
On the one hand it is good that if necessary one can buy a replacement for $35 euro in near new condition or 120 euro new from Renault parts. On the other hand having to have it painted is a pain, it will never match perfectly and it does not seem to be something fixable with lubrication.

Is there more information on this topic, specifically regarding door hinges? Mine makes a popping noise about every fifth time I open or close the door. The car is not used regularly, and now even the passenger door has started doing the same thing. Very disappointing.
Before the door makes the popping noise, you can also feel a slight resistance when opening or closing it.
Is replacing the hinges the only way to solve this? I’ll try some lubricant as a first measure.

Both mine do this if the door has been opened fully, but I can avoid it by gently rocking the door close/open slightly, before closing. Once you’ve got the knack you can avoid the embarrassing clunk.
We shouldn’t have to, but I can’t be bothered with the hassle of having the hinge replaced, when it will likely return anyway.

Mine does this occasionally -hot weather makes it worse, (i.e. .ore frequent). Pulling the door back when you feel resistance (just before it 'pops') and then opening it again seems to prevent it. I have an extended warranty, but now St Albans has gone over to the dark side I'm a fair distance from a dealer, so I think I'll live with it...
If anyone finds a lubricant that lasts more than a dozen door open/close cycles, please let me know.
I do as a few of the responders have said & let the door spring back when I feel resistance & it never seems to "pop" on the second attempt. It's become second nature now, but still frustrating if I think about it.

It would frustrate me on a Clio with 20k miles, let alone on a car as expensive as an Alpine. The worst thing is when you present your new, expensive car to your family or friends, and the door pops the first time they touch it.
The thing with the lube is that you can only lubricate the moving part underneath, but not the cylinder on top where the spring sits. Maybe drilling a small hole from above is actually a good idea to have access to it
