Porsche Classic Register - worthwhile?
Discussion
Now that my 987 is eligible for the Porsche Classic Register, I’m contemplating signing up for it (it says ‘complimentary’ on the website).
Are the decent benefits to it that make it worthwhile? It’s a bit of a trek for a free wash but it does say I get number plate surrounds. The parts discount sounds good but I’m wondering is there a discount any better than say an Indy would get anyway?

I think it is seems great value. It costs nothing and one gets 4 free washes and vacuums. Free nitrogen service for your tyres (thats a new one on me). 15% discount on parts. Why contemplate it? The number plate surrounds are great too huh. I am definitely going to register my R.Are the decent benefits to it that make it worthwhile? Utterly pointless, unless you use the OPC for servicing.
Membership seems to need renewing yearly, I won’t bother again just for some crappy trinkets.
How so though? I don't get the negativity or the aforementioned contemplation as even 4 free washes is something right. Membership seems to need renewing yearly, I won’t bother again just for some crappy trinkets.

Thanks for reminding me, I'm keen.
When you think of it, its great that Porsche are supportive of older models, it enhances the ownership experience. Not aware of many other manufacturers releasing new products for 10+ yr old car?
I’ll give it a go when I get a moment spare. When you think of it, its great that Porsche are supportive of older models, it enhances the ownership experience. Not aware of many other manufacturers releasing new products for 10+ yr old car?
It’s interesting looking at the level of parts support Porsche give for older models, I don’t think any other mainstream manufacturer comes close.
I have done the paperwork for my 987 Boxster. You can also get invites to Porsche Classic events - we got an invite to the event at Cheines Manor last year through the PCGB and it was a fun, free event. Convinced me - and it is great to see a manufacturer giving ongoing support for their old(er) cars rather than just wanting people to buy new ones. A good sustainability message and great ongoing customer support.

they do, but you need to look at their second line parts or exchange programmes to get the best prices. It’s interesting looking at the level of parts support Porsche give for older models, I don’t think any other mainstream manufacturer comes close.
The Classic Register was an utter pain for me. OPC were uninterested and I had to continuously prod them despite getting my car serviced by them.
About 10 months later I got a badge, one number plate surround at the dealer and a plastic card through the post. No sign of the promised Originale Magazine, no mention of car washes (not that I’d want them) and no N in tyres AFAIK. Maybe it was just my OPC but the experience left a poor impression.

I think the problem is a lot of OPC’s won’t want to do it because Porsche force pricing on them at reduced labour rates to service older cars. OPC’s are full to the brim with work on new cars at fully loaded labour rates so why engage in a promotion that is going to reduce your profitability. Plus they don’t have the tech’s with the expertise/knowledge to service these cars. Imagine taking a car in to an OPC that runs on Carbs or early Fuel Injection ? Total disaster.About 10 months later I got a badge, one number plate surround at the dealer and a plastic card through the post. After my post above I called OPC Hatfield expressing interest in registering for this. Relevant person wasn't there, left a message and contact details with his colleague.
Still waiting for the call a week later!
I'm keen but not THAT keen to start chasing it up. I've concluded that OPC Hatfield has no interest in this either.
