A couple of weeks ago I decided to cancel my order for a Macan GTS. I had the deposit down for about 10 weeks but had not had not received an allocation. I emailed the salesperson I had been dealing with and thought that would be sufficient to get the money back on my card.

Was quite surprised it actually involved having to compete a couple of forms (fair enough) but also confirming in writing why I had decided to cancel my (unallocated) order?? Still waiting for the deposit to be refunded.

Is this the norm?

I've never had that before. If there is no allocation then they usually offer something else to keep a deal going, but the money is returned that day.

I thought it was weird. When I initially emailed the salesman to let him know I was cancelling I explained my rationale and he replied telling me to complete the attached forms and to confirm in writing why I was cancelling. I replied saying it was in the email I just sent but apparently this wasn’t enough and had to be documented separately.

At a rough guess, they're either getting flak from Germany, or preparing to get flak from Germany, so are being pro-active, and preparing a report saying "our sales figures have been missed this quarter because <<insert pie chart>> " biggrin

All dealer groups work in a different way I guess. Humour them with as little information as you can get away with and see how long it takes. When I cancelled my order it took a month to get my deposit back and I had to contact the DP in the end.

As an aside I was chatting to a salesman about replacing my non Porsche SUV and they were seeing lots of cancellations and were offering larger discounts than before to try and shift metal. Double digit APR was not helping.

Non performance car manufacturer who I sell for, the manufacturer monitor cancellations, we are "allowed" a certain percentage vs ordertake before we are penalised financially this is to stop spurious orders for stock cars, perhaps they are asking for these details in writing to try to protect themselves from this issue.

Another possible reason is they may be targeted on ordertake, a cancellation may result in them going down a banding, thus less bonus, again if a good and genuine documented reason the manufacturer may not penalise them.

When the 718 gt4 first came out I decided to cancel my allocation as timings were not right for me. No fuss from the dealership and money back in my account in a couple of days.

Maybe due to the higher interest rates and higher RRP prices they are seeing a greater number of cancellations, I’d just fill out the form honestly, as long as the dealers not in trouble the money will be back in the account in no time.

I ran a Macan gts as a daily for 4 years, great all round car.

Why are you now cancelling, they really do tick all the boxes.

Genuine question did you really expect to get an allocation in 10 weeks in the current situation?

I read it as DD saying that cancelling should be ok because of no allocation, not complaining about it
