My wife was telling me last night how she is going to lock me in a walk in cold room as I am so despicable. It did get us both thinking ,on TV dramas , the odd film, quite a few old programs. Columbo , Tales of the unexpected etc. They all seem to lock the victim in the cold room and there is apparently no lock or handle on the inside. We actually watched it in a BBC drama just this week.

So for those that know have walk in freezers or fridges , cold rooms got a handle inside to open the door?

I'm no expert but I'd imagine a lack of ability to open a walk-in freezer or fridge from the inside would be a massive H&S violation and liability issue...

They have push button door openers.
You can’t shut someone inside.

I think the inside lock also works independently of the outside so if you padlocked the outside, you can still get out.

Unless you’re tied up on the floor inside .D

And that’s based on my first visit into one in ‘96.

Way back in the dim and distant past, when I did holiday jobs as a 6th former, you could never lock someone in a cold store.

Did she spit in the 50 gallons of bouillabaisse you'd been preparing as well?

I remember years ago some poor bugger got locked in an autoclave just before it was turned on.
Nasty way to go.... It must be a massive H&S/design cock up for it to be even possible.

This has blown my mind and ruined many a good film and detective program for me,

If I subsequently find out that elevators DON'T have handy hatches in the roof to allow easy means of escape in the even of being trapped in one by James bond baddies etc. then I may have a full-blown breakdown.

The abbatoir I use has several walk in freezers, each one has the same handle system on the inside as the outside....

Outside.

Inside (glow in the dark too)

I have the handles the wrong way around because it works for my specific use.
