Vivitar DVH 390H Hard drive issues

Can anybody help me with a small issue with my Vivitar DVH 390H. I can run it with an SD Card in, but when I start it up without the SD card in I get the start up screen, but I can't get the mian OS.

This is the hard drive if anybody can offer me any tips [url]http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage/products/OtherDocs/Datasheet/MK2004-4004_Datasheet.pdf[/url] It's called a Toshiba MK2004GAL, can I reformat it via my pc?
