I used to sprint / hillclimb fairly regularly in various cars but got much less frequent over the last decade or so with family, work, global pandemics etc getting in the way. Some years I've done a couple of local ones (I live just outside Norwich so Hethel and Snetterton), some years I haven't done any.

Am planning on getting back into it this year. I still have the Ep3 type R that I bought primarily for sprinting. Its standard-class ready. I might do 5-7 events this year, maybe more the year after.

Only question is which championship has a well supported A2 class? AEMC? B19? both? Its difficult to tell from the entry lists and previous year results.

Thanks

Fulke Greville is nobody to shout about, the man is a convicted crook.

Here is a full list of his notable achievements, and I am betting if he was competing in a standard class that car was far from standard!!

I wouldn't dream of describing myself as a 'good person', but this chap is clearly an abhorrent piece of st.

It is a pretty awful list is it not, yet for some reason the MSUK keep giving him a licence, you would think they would know the name by now and stop him from having one, it hardly looks good! I feel for the club too, as they perhaps have no idea. Sprinting is a great way into the sport. and am sure the guy is fine away from his "work", but it is hardly a great look sadly

C F-G posts widely on forums under very many different names - mention of a Turner always flushes him out.

It should be noted that all of the PH threads in which this OP has contributed then mention Greville in one context or another - I wonder why? (Actually I don't it is glaringly obvious)

The only person who regularly put their name on the AEMC trophy in that time period was Bill McKenna who also was long term main sponsor

B19 awards double points for its own events so if you want a shot at the title you'll have to do them. Problem is two of them are Lydden which isn't ideal for you. Of course as many events are rounds of more than one championship you can enter multiple championships.

Err, you cannot slander a person who has been convicted multiple times for crimes by talking about them! It is public record I am afraid.

You or they might not like it, but it is a fact they cannot back away from, that is what happens when you commit multiple crimes, people remember the name, especially if you are involved in racing, Jerry Mahoney, Vic Lee, and several others.

I am sure the bloke is fine while racing, he has done it for years I believe. And I actually say that myself! But I am afraid a life with that much pretty bloody awful crime in (taken from newspaper articles not just any old website) cannot be avoided.

I am looking at doing sprinting in the next year or so if possible, it is a great entry into the sport, and can be done relatively cheaply in standard cars, my only beef being the amount of faffing you have to do with clubs and licences etc, it could and should be SOOOOO much easier.

It really isn’t difficult. The licence application is straightforward and it’s dead easy to join a club. Once you have a licence it’s really simple to renew, MUK’s slightly clunky website aside.

It’s never occurred to me that this is even slightly an issue.

Agreed, reckon it could all be done easily within 30 mins. Renewing membership and licence can be completed in 5 mins.. the MSUK licence team are also extremely helpful, so if you have any issues just ask them.

If you're looking for a car club to join I can recommend Herts County Auto & Aero Club. Third oldest in the country (celebrating our 120th anniversary this year) with some lovely trophies.

I say this only as I have raced elsewhere before away from MSUK and it is considerably easier, cheaper and more straightforward.

Herts County Auto & Aero Club is a really good club that offers some good events and their organisers and members are all OK, and none of them are clicky like, say Sevenoaks Motor Club.

I've had a tidy of the more extraneous nonsense. Hopefully it still makes sense.

Thanks all (relevant ones).

I joined B19. Been with them for many years in the past and found them friendly and welcoming.
