There are still a few new cars that I love but they tend to be individual models from different manufacturers rather than consistently from the same brand. However, it hasn't always been that way for me. So if you could go back in time and pick 2 models from the same manufacturer and same era to own, what would they be?

For me, early 2000s was a great era for BMW, so an E46 M3 and E39 M5 would be a tempting pairing and different enough in character not to feel like I'd doubled up.

Likewise, my favourite Ferraris were from the 90s, so an F355 GTS and a 550 Maranello would be a very tempting prospect.

But I think I'll go with 90s Mercedes. I've always wanted an R129 SL500, so it's a question of pairing an early-90s SL500

with a 190E 2.5-16

or a 500E

or go for a late 90s SL500 and a C43 AMG

So if you could go back to any era and own 2 "box fresh" cars from the same manufacturer, what would you go for?

I've always loved RWD cars with manual gearboxes, and the more power the better!

But that does limit my choices, which is why I have my current teenage cars.

Although I'd love to have an E39 M5 instead of my 330i!

Did the Z4M and E39 M5 ever co-exist? It would certainly be a fine pairing though. Ever considered an E90 M3 to replace the 330i?

90's BMW for me

E36 M3 Evo and a Z3 M-Coupe

I'd also want a Z8, an e39 M5 and an 850 too. BMW had it so right in the 90's!

Late 99s early 00s Renault.
For daily duties and long drives.. a Laguna
For fun, a Sport Spider.

Ok the Laguna is far from desirable, but it's the most comfortable, practical and not an mpv or SUV.
Can anyone think of a better pairing that includes a super light? VX220 and.. something, but I have an irrational hatred of Vauxhalls due to having owned one.

I was thinking of these two.

Esprit and Carlton from early 90's also entered my mind.

For dry weather use a 1955 Mercedes 300 SL. And a 1955 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing.for when it's raining.

Excellent choices. However, I think I'd go for GT40 and either Capri 3000 or 1969 Mustang Fastback.

Mercedes is a good place to start- how about a Mercedes 280 SL and a 600 Pullman? That would do very nicely, thank you!

Great Thread beer

1980 - I would rather predictably nerd go for a Fiat Mirafiori Sport 2000TC and a Fiat 132 2000 TC.

Like many others I love cloud9 late 80’s early 90’s Mercedes.

Using 1990 as a base Year and always preferring a 6 Pot, I’d go for a well specified 190E 2.6 and W124 300E.

Lancia Delta Integrale

Lancia Thema 8:32

I'm not really a Lancia fan but these two reek of old and funky cars, IMO.
