In a similar vein to another post - this one on the Humber Bridge...

Up until recently, windy weather would result in 30mph 'advisory' limits being displayed by the small on-bridge matrix signs - just the figure '30', with flashing yellow lights. The legally-enforcible limit across the bridge is normally 50mph - denoted by fixed 'normal-sized' red-circle signs at the bridge ends, plus about ten repeater signs in each direction.

For a while now, the small 'side' matrix signs have become red-circled 30's - which would seem to indicate this is now an enforcible limit, not simply advisory. However, those '50' repeater roundels are still there, and no attempt is made to cover them up when the matrix signs are lit. I counted four '30' matrix signs interspersed among ten '50' repeaters.

So what gives? Does the limit alternate between 30 and 50mph along the Bridge? Or are the Bridge authorities trying to 'psyche' drivers into slowing down - even though the '30' signs are not actually enforcible? I notice that the '30' signs still have flashing yellow lights, so maybe that's a clue?

The matter of exceeding an advisory limit is, of course, a separate debate!
