Right guys here is the deal. Last week my Alpine CVA 1004 head unit and a CH-S634 6 disc changer got nicked from my car. The people didnt get the face off unit as it was in my house. There was also a centurion dvd player taken.

Today, on ebay there is a head unit and a changer of the same models for sale. The key point is that the head unit for sale does not, I repeat DOES NOT have the face off unit. It sounds a bit familiar. Do you reckon there is any chance it could be mine?

Bear in mind there are about 15 of the head units for sale on ebay and all the others are complete. This one also lacks the wiring loom, which funnily enough is still in my car. I put it to PH, is it worth calling the car crime unit again?

I can't see why not.

It COULD be a coincidence, but it seems unlikely.

I would just say though don't hold your breath for plod to actually do anything, I reckon they will suggest you bid on it....

Sounds far too good to be a coincidence.
On the sellers info at the top of the auction does it state what area he/she is from? If from your neck of the woods then even more likely.
Does the face plate have a serial number that would correspond to the main section? May be worth checking on this with Alpine.
Personally I'd be tempted to win the auction, get the sellers address and meet him to collect with a few mates.

They aren't from my area but they could have been in Glasgow at the weekend and bought it at a local market and gone back to the East midlands.

I have a serial number that is already logged with Alpine as stolen.

Bit far for me to travel at the moment as the theft and and attendent has left me a bit tight.

You can bank on the Police doing absolutely jack shit, unless you drive your car with excess speed to pick it up, I'd get your numbers in place and check the unit out, if the numbers match up, it is your duty to give the chap a royal beating with your chums. Justice doesn't work, take the law into your own hands.

I remember my first car having the door forced and handbrake let off, it was stopped by the lamp post hitting the engine mount! The policeman said "Sonny, I don't want to know". Everytime I have needed the police they have been difficult/unhelpful/indifferent but when they want to shag my ass, that they do. I have no confidence in them at all, if you contact the police, you will be merely giving them evidence against YOU.

Remember, the golden get out clause for beating someone up is to say that they spat in your face. That is very very serious indeed as far as the cops are concerned.

Edit:- I am a perfectly civilised gent and abide by the laws as I see fit.

Edit again:- Start a new ebay account with false details so that you are untraceable, go and meet the bloke and if he has got your kit, knock him out, tie him up and throw him in the boot of your car, find the highest bridge you can find and hang the bastard by his feet a "good distance" up/down. I reckon it would be worth the drive to either Clifton or Humber.

I take a daily 'Bitter & twisted' pill, as well.
It helps when dealing with crime related,
bad taste in mouth/things stuck in craw.

I had an extra one today, since its been a fortnight since my horse trailer was nicked.

never mind, eh society is to blame
which I think is Northampton Clownstabulary's Motto

Thats very tempting. He must have bought it from someone up here, and that someone knocked me out. You know what they say, what goes around comes around.

Take a chance that he doesn't know anything technically about the unit and tell him that you've got a face-off and want the main unit but there are compatibility issues. Tell him you need to know the serial number to tie down the date of manufacture to find out if the two parts will be compatible.

If you come across friendly he won't realise what you're up to.

Just get in touch with Ebay requesting contact details as you believe the person could be selling your stolen goods.

Ebay details will most likely be false though - there are no checks!

Just an idea......If the unit is yours or compatible with yours, buy it from him cheap claim full price off insurance and pocket the difference. Sadly that is the only way you're going to come out of this on top. It's the way of the world now, everyone is screwing each other.

Edited to add: Once you have the unit and the insurance money, go and nick the f***ers car and run him over in it.

He might be a bit far away... Would be fun though

However I have truly astonishing news. My friend has got some of his kit back, and supposedly 10 people were arrested locally!!! His stereo wasn't found though and neither was mine, so it's still a possibility that the one on ebay IS mine.

Nice one Kenny, good luck in getting your stuff back. I had a set of speakers nicked from my car years ago, I claimed off insurance for a new set. The best thing was, the nicked set were knackered anyway.

Well I spoke to the police and they were very cynical... spoke to me like I was stupid.

I can't claim from insurance because then I lose my no claims bonus which over the next 4 years will be worth more than what was stolen.

is this the item?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alpine-CVA-1004R-In-dash-Motorised-Screen-Tuner_W0QQitemZ5801168883QQcategoryZ75327QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

take a look at the other items this toerag has sold over the last few months......Intel 4 chip, Laptop, ladies shoes ?

One person fencing business if you ask me. I would definitely get in contact with the Bibs and also the Ebay security department as if you have the serial number for your head unit it would be interesting to see what the serial number is on this unit he has for sale.
If they are a genuine seller they won't mind posting the serial number.

The very one. He has given me a serial number, though it doesn't seem to even be the same number of digits as mine.

He's got 100% feedback, so he *must* be OK.

Mind you, he's got the box (or at least *a box*) and manual for it - is that likely? Don't say you left them in the car.

Can you really (as he suggests) buy another front from Alpine - that's a bit of a security flaw, surely?
