I wont name them in case it breaks the rules of name and shaming...but I've got a SIM only deal that ends in three months (well three payments). Since Saturday I've had no signal when at home. There is an issue with the mask and apparently the landlord to the site is causing issues (this is what another phone company have said in a more professional way). They are saying they hope to have it fixed by 01/03/2023.

I'm not out for compo. I just want to leave and go to a company that has signal. They are currently saying no I'd have to pay the remaining amount before I can leave.

Anyone got any advice?

Does any other operator have a signal? Mast sharing is so prevalent now they may all be using the same mast

Buy a giff-gaff SIM card and try it out, you can pay monthly or just top up. Giff-gaff runs via the O2 network. If you prefer it you can move your old number to that SIM.

ETA I assume you mean ‘02 don’t have …. a signal’ in which case I’m sure you can buy any SIM that would work at a supermarket check-out.

Do you not have broadband/wi-fi at home?

If you do, just switch your phone to wi-fi calling. Job done.

I'd then have to pay for two SIM cards which I don't want to do.

No internet at home currently. Never been a problem until now (currently at my parents).

Whereabouts are you out of interest?

Unfortunately mobile phone operators are not always good tenants and sometimes issues arise between them and their landlords.

I can tell you from experience there will be plenty of shouting going on.

My Samsung phone somehow lost network access (BT) After much investigation and headscratching I was given this fix:

Go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Operators.

Turn off "Select Automatically" and let your phone search for other Networks eg EE, Vodafone etc. Choose an operator (not your own, obviously!) and try to connect.

This will fail, because your SIM doesn't have permission; now, simply turn "Select Automatically" back on and your phone should then reconnect to your own network and be working again. Should...

Hope this helps - it definitely worked for me after the BT Technical People had guided me through all their "normal" reconnection routines and nothing else had worked.

Either you want a usable phone or not, a SIM is not dear.

We had a similar issue a few years ago, wife's phone didn't have signal at home but did a mile away, took a few weeks to persuade the provider that they had a mast problem.

Grumps.

Smarty is terrible, please don't use it

~Smarty user a bit too lazy to bother changing

Switching airplane mode on and off can also work. It's entirely possible the local site is fine but it's your phone having a weird moment. Try putting your SIM in another phone which will definitely confirm where the problem is.

I suspect we may have to wait until tomorrow to hear from the SP. No signal you know!

Are you reasonably well travelled with a comparator phone on a different network?

I regret leaving Vodafone. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret it enough to bother doing anything about it. But I can't recommend Smarty at all.

Smarty use the '3' network, which can be patchy.
