Hi all, we're looking at booking a few days to Stuttgart to visit the Porsche museum and do a factory tour. We're going to be taking the 911 so does anyone have any recommendations for decent hotels - one in Stuttgart (or outskirts) and one maybe in the Reims area of France? Gotta have decent roomy parking! Any other recommendations?

Also go to the Mercedes museum, its brilliant.

We stayed in Pforzheim and came into Stuttgart on the train, but the hotel we used on both trips wasn't so great last time, but it was being refurbished so may be ok now (ParkHotel). I've parked a Volvo and 911 there.

Try Chateau Etoges near Reims, it's jolly nice and just fine parking.

We did that trip last summer...

Kent to Reims - photos at the old F1 circuit etc. very nice city to spend a night in - Best Western Premier Hotel de la Paix - underground parking but OK for the 911

Reims to Stuttgart - two nights at the V8 Hotel, good underground car park that the McLaren dealership also use (in a themed room, cos I'm a child smile ) - visit to Porsche Museum. Parking at the museum is good. I would recommend dinner at their Christophorus restaurant on the top floor. Also walked around Motorworld at the hotel

Stuttgart to Lucerne - Four nights at the Birgentsock Resort (really silly amounts of money but very nice indeed)

Lucerne to Luxembourg - one night there before coming home - Hotel Place d'Armes - offsite parking - they wanted to park it for me but I said no and drove it there with the hotel guy in the passenger seat

Excellent trip!

There's a Holiday Inn just down the road from the Factory/Museum which has a pretty big underground car park and seems reasonably safe and secure. Not the height of luxury but does the job.

If driving a Porsche and if you ask nicely they'll also let you park your car outside the front of the museum to take some pictures as well.

I wanted to do this but was a bit scared - should have just done it as there were a few Porsche hire cars already parked there.

I took a chance and asked the lady on the ticket desk and she said "of course, your car has come home" smile While it was there and I was taking pictures a young couple came up and asked if I could take their picture next to it which was a bit embarrassing but I obliged while my wife was killing herself laughing in the back ground.

We're going back in July as we couldn't do the factory tour when we were there due to the pandemic. Looking forwards to that.

Oh, by the way, I was going to ask you if the Alfa bed broke while you were in the V8 Hotel but perhaps that's a bit too personal wink

Love it - my wife would have been doing the same smile

We missed the factory tour too as the idiot planning the trip forgot about it being closed for the summer break curse

The Alfa bed survived surprisingly!

indeed, if you ask, they have no problem with taking pictures of your Porsche in front of the museum.

Did this in September last year, 3 weeks after taking delivery of my car. Went to Nurburgring and then to Stuttgart afterwards. We stayed in the V8 Hotel also and visited the Mercedes Museum the following day. Was a great trip and really enjoyed the whole experience.

If you’re not fussy Mercure is walking distance from the Museum with secure underground car park. Clean room and good breakfast.

We arrived at dinner time at Stuttgart, then:

Day one we did 4hr+ lunch at Mercedes Museum (it’s massive) then back to the hotel and used the tram (very easy) to travel to town centre for some sightseeing and dinner.

Day two we spent the morning at Porsche museum (before heading to the ‘ring).

Keep hold of your Mercedes tickets and show them at Porsche, you get discount on admission.

Most museums in Germany close on Monday FYI.

At weekends Porsche have their own display / hire cars in front of the museum so can be a bit tricky. Weekdays are fine though.

Yep, looks sensational!

I sense it may have been a wife pleaser to get Porsche focused Summer holiday over the line?

Would have been in this household anyway.

It was a little bit of that smile - Porsche themed first half (although she did enjoy the museum, I think!) followed by a few days relaxing. They have three hotels on the site and we stayed at the cheapest but it still worked out at about £850 a night for bed and breakfast. The best hotel we’ve ever stayed at and was a fantastic treat but one that I suspect won’t be repeated anytime soon.

You can see where the cash goes - it’s on the other side of the lake to the town so they have a little boat to get you across - free if you’re staying there. £90 return if you aren’t!!

We were there last weekend, great city, very friendly locals.

This is useful: https://hoodmaps.com/stuttgart-neighborhood-map

The Mercedes museum is spectacular, the ladies in the group thought it far superior to the Porsche museum.

We had a day trip to Rotenburg which was extremely nice, I cannot recommend that enough.

Meals out were relatively inexpensive by UK standards, top quality beers.

Stuttgart itself is slightly let down by a fairly appalling selection of roads that dominate the periphery of the centre, the train lines occupy a sizeable chunk going north. Avoid walking in the cycle lanes as the cyclists tend to have a meltdown.

We also checked out the Corbusier museum which was interesting

I am sure you will have splendid fun

Took a friend from Cologne on a road trip in my 928GTS in 2000. We set off on the Sunday of the Belgian GP, towards Munich, for the BMW museum. Along the way we paused for petrol & coffee in time to see that pass on the tv ( Mika taking Michael around the other side of Zonta). Spent the first night in an old monastery ( I think) converted into a hostel.
BMW museum was ok, if a bit underwhelming.

Onwards to Stuttgart - friends of friends offered us their apartment for a couple days ( were away somewhere).
First up was Mercedes museum - it's brilliant. Allow a day, there's a lot to see.. Following day, we visited Porsche.
A rewarding trip.

As a Porsche fan, I think the ladies in your group were right. The layout, building and general setup was better at Mercedes IMHO. However, Porsche Museum is good too and it'd be boring if they were the same style.
