Been looking for some advice on this for a while, however the short story is I had an accident in my car in March 22. The car has been deemed repairable and is in the process of being repaired. However next month it will have been a full year since the accident, and the car is still being repaired by the body shop. I understand there will be delays with parts etc, but when you paying a substantial amount of money for a car every month for a year and been given a 1.0 litre to drive around in its extremely frustrating.

Should I just shut up and put up? Or should I take it up with the insurance as so far they have been of no help. If I had a car of similar value it wouldn’t be so bad. But as it was my fault there they only offer 1.0 litres.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

You know that they’re using your car for parts to fix other ones, right?

Basically, they have kept you mobile which unless you took out "like for like" courtesy car (which costs more) then you are stuck with your courtesy car you have.

Having said that to have it in for repair for a year is pretty extreme, you need to start pushing, although I am not really sure why you didn't after a month TBH.

This. 1 year is nuts though. What car? I believe Rowan Atkinson's F1 only took 16 months to rebuild after he totalled it!

My neighbour has waited over a month so far for a chip for a 10 year old Mondeo. There are odd things happening at the moment.

And it's half-term for some parts of the country.

what is the reason for the delay in repairing your vehicle - have you asked them?

It is likely to be parts related. However which part? Are there alternatives you'd consider like a 'recycled' part.

Speak to the insurance company, the 1.0 litre loan car is being paid for by someone - either the repairer or the insurance company. Even at £20 a week, it's cost a grand to have you mobile.

I suspect you're a youngster, with little or no experience of talking to people on the phone ( scary eh?) So now's your chance to practice.

Who have you talked to so far and what reasons have you been given for the delay?

Assume it is on lease/finance so have you talked to the lease/finance provider yet as technically it is their car not yours.

Doesn't seem like you have been very proactive to let it drag on for so long with at least not knowing the reason for the delay.

I know someone who had there car in for repair for 3 months and the issue was waiting for a rear light that was on back order. they even suggested getting a second hand light to the repairer but they wouldnt. then they were passing an audi dealer and popped in to ask about said back light being on back order. They had been given the part number by the repairer somewhere along the line. Audi service punch the number in and they have a defunct light on back order!!! new part number given and light arrives the next day!!!
