Just seen, £596,250 with fees.

I just don’t understand why. Previous record was £135k.

Why would you pay 600 grand for a Sierra?

Because they think they've new set the new market rate for Cosworths, and they already have another couple in the garage?

I don’t think a totally original 5k mile car is going to get painted lol

It isn’t original. Ignore the bullst sales speil. We walked around it and walked away. I’ve seen far nicer ones.

Seems unlikely.

I have considered buying one of my own Morris Itals at auction for around £100,000 and then cashing in selling the other 17.

Cannae lose.

As for this particular sale, I hope it makes everyone involved very happy indeed.

I know. No one in person would pay that for if they’d walked around it. Got to be a mistake.

I’ve seen the car myself a number of times both recently and over the years. What’s not original?

Yesterday, it seemed unlikely that somebody would spend half a million quid on a Ford Sierra. But they did, and I'm just speculating as to why.

The one that sold for £110k had 15k miles on it in 2021.

https://www.silverstoneauctions.com/1989-ford-sier...

This one had 5k. rolleyes

In that split screen, there was woman jumping up and down and on the left, next to her, people came over to shake a bloke's hand, I presumed he was the seller. smile Even after fees, he'll collect about £490k!!

Quite a few 'buy it now' prices for the ones that didn't sell:

Historics had an auction today too (London Classic Car show) and looking at the results, about half didn't sell....

Why would you pay more, sometimes an order of magnitude more, for cars from the 60s and earlier that drive much worse?
